By way of its Facebook fan page, Leica has revealed a little more about the upcoming Leica Mini M. The new teaser graphic shows a camera that's bigger than the existing Leica X2 (a.k.a. 'Micro M') but smaller than the Leica M, as you would expect based on the 'Mini M' designation. Although the image reveals little more, it now seems certain that the Leica Mini M will not have a body-integral optical viewfinder. The official launch date is 11th June.

The 2014 Sony World Photography Awards, organised by the World Photography Organisation, are now open for entries. Photographers will compete for a range of cash prizes and the latest digital imaging equipment from Sony. Overall winners will be announced in London on 30 April 2014. The Awards include the following competitions: Open, Professional, Student Focus and Youth. The winner of the 2014 L’Iris d’Or/Photographer of the Year title will be presented with $25,000 and the Open Photographer of the Year will receive $5,000. Professional, amateur, youth and student photographers from across the world can enter their best work for free at the website below.

The Society of International Travel and Tourism Photographers have announced the winners of the Life on the Street Photography competition. The picture, "Street Artist" by Antonio Rojas (Philippines) was chosen as the winner from the 1020+ pictures entered in to the contest. Antonio has won a 12-month membership to The Society of International Travel and Tourism Photographers a Trek-Tech Optera 230 tripod and a Fujifilm AX660.camera.

Zoner has released a free Android version of its Zoner Photo Studio software. Polagram is a new service enabling you to print your photos directly from your smartphone. Rollei has unveiled a new Wi-Fi enabled action camera. The Rollei Actioncam 5S WiFi Diving Edition is equipped with a 7x multi-layer coated glass lens with an angle of view of 175 degrees and a 14-megapixel CMOS sensor, and comes bundled with a 1.4" external TFT display. FocusStacker for iOS is billed as the first-ever calculating tool for photographers using the focus stacking technique. You can specify how sharp you would like your final image to be, set focal length and the distances to the nearest and furthest objects in the scene you’re photographing, and then let FocusStacker determine exactly what you need to know: the minimum number of shots to take, the distances on which to focus, and the aperture to use. Do note, however, that FocusStacker is not suitable for close-up or macro photography.

Mary Walker Exhibitions have announced that this year's Focus On Imaging show was the last. Originally named Focus on Photography, the event was first organised 24 years ago. Since then, it has grown to be the largest annual photographic trade show in Europe. Commenting on the closure, Mary Walker said: "Focus On Imaging will not be sold - I'm simply bringing it to an end... I am certain that the time is right for the industry to perhaps find fresh opportunitities and bring new ideas to photographers."

Tiwani Contemporary will host an exhibition by South African photographer Gideon Mendel entitled, Drowning World. The selection includes 15 images taken in Nigeria that have never been exhibited before, and  5  photographs  documenting  flooding  in  various  parts  of  the  globe  including  England,  India,  Haiti  and Australia. The exhibition also presents a two-part video of people living amidst floodwaters in Bangkok, as well as video portraits of Nigerian inhabitants returning to their flooded homes. Drowning World will run from 7 June – 27 July 2013.

Canon has released a firmware update for its EOS-1D Mark IV digital SLR camera. Version 1.1.3 incorporates the following improvement and fix:

1. Enables the central AF point to autofocus when the camera is used with the EF 200-400mm f/4L IS USM Extender 1.4x lens and a teleconverter whose combined maximum aperture is f/8.
    
2. Fixes a phenomenon in which abnormal images may result when continuous shooting mode is enabled and the image size is set to "RAW" or "RAW+JPEG".
