Phase One and Schneider Kreuznach have announced a series of new leaf shutter lenses. Designed for use with the Phase One 645DF and Mamiya 645DF camera bodies, the four new lenses are now under development, with the first two lenses to reach the market being the 75-150mm LS and 240mm LS.

The winning images, plus a selection of shortlisted shots, will be featured on the Wanderlust website, printed in Wanderlust Magazine and The Independent, and showcased in an exhibition at Destinations 2012, the UK’s top holiday and travel show. The four winners of the Photo of the Year Amateur category will be whisked away (along with a companion) to photogenic Colombia, while runners-up will receive a Nikon D3100 camera. Software developer Evgeny Zubkov (iDevelopersLab) has announced the release of Camera Retro, a new photography app for the Apple iPad 2 and iPhone 4. Sporting a graphical user interface that mimics the look of a retro camera, this application allows users to capture photos using the devices’ built-in camera and apply up to 5 different retro effects to them. Camera Retro for iPad 2 and iPhone 4 is available on iTunes for $5.99.

The Canon PowerShot S100 is an advanced compact camera that features an f/2.0 lens and an enhanced HS System. The Ricoh GR DIGITAL IV is a new high-end compact camera with a fixed focal length lens. Ricoh will release the fifth and final function-enhancing firmware update for its GR DIGITAL III camera in mid-October. Changes include the addition of contrast bracketing, expansion of the ADJ. control settings, and a new ISO [AUTO-HI] setting function.

The winners of the Eyewitness Photography Competition, launched by Metroprint in partnership with the Royal Academy of Arts, have been announced. The competition, hosted by Metroprint, Metro Imaging’s new online print service, coincided with the Royal Academy’s exhibition: Eyewitness: Hungarian Photography in the 20th Century - Brassaï, Capa, Kertész, Moholy-Nagy, Munkácsi. The overall winner is “Boy in the Water” by David Gould (above), which depicts a young boy wading across the Yumana River, as seen from a railway bridge.
