Epson has introduced the Epson Stylus NX430, an all-in-one printer-copier-scanner that is the first model in the company’s new Small-in-One range. The space-saving, ultra-compact Epson NX430 can print up to A4 size and comes complete with a 2.5” colour LCD touch panel. Other highlights include 4-colour (CMYK) drop-on-demand MicroPiezo inkjet technology, 1200dpi optical scanner resolution, and Wi-Fi connectivity. “Consumers will be amazed with the compact size and powerful performance of the Epson Stylus NX430,” said Kristi Lanzit, product manager, Consumer Ink Jets, Epson America, Inc. “The name Small-in-One says it all; no other printer offers such great performance in a small size – guaranteed.” The first Epson Small-in-One is available for $99.99 in the US.

In the UK, the device is marketed under the name Epson Stylus SX445W Small-in-One and carries a recommended retail price of £99.99.

DxO Labs have just released DxO Film Pack 3, a collection of photo effects designed to simulate the look of various film emulsions. The company says it has “worked with world class film processing facilities, Picto in Paris and Duggal in New York, to develop a unique film profiling process that ensures the most precise film simulation available on the market today”. Version 3 adds ten new film looks, additional colour filters and black-and-white conversion controls, a completely revamped user-friendly interface and multiple plug-ins for better workflow integration. Compatible with Mac and Windows, DxO FilmPack 3 is available in two editions, Essential and Expert, which differ in terms of available film renderings and features. A free 31-day trial version of DxO FilmPack 3 is available on DxO Labs’ website.

Lensbaby’s Senior Style Portrait Photo Contest, which challenges US photographers to enter their best high-school senior portraits shot with one of the seven creative optics in the Lensbaby Optic Swap System, is now open for entries. Lensbaby staff will choose 50 finalists and post those images to a special folder on their Facebook page in October.  Then, a panel of judges will choose three winners. Each winning photographer will score significant prizes that will allow them to outfit or upgrade their senior portrait tools and studio. The submission deadline is 30 September 2011, 2pm EDT.

In February, Toshiba will start shipping its first SDHC memory card with embedded wireless LAN functionality. The new card, FlashAir, has an 8GB capacity and allows users to upload and download photographs to and from a server and to exchange photographs and other data with other devices, including digital cameras that are FlashAir compliant and, smartphones and PCs that support wireless LAN. Even in digital cameras not compliant with FlashAir (this basically applies to all current models), the new card can share digital images with smartphones and Wi-Fi enabled computers. Toshiba will secure certification of FlashAir for wireless communication in Japan, North America and Europe. Pricing to be announced.

Starting September 2011, Carl Zeiss will be offering its UV filters and circular polarisers in four new sizes: 52mm, 55mm, 62mm and 77mm. Until now the company’s filters have only been available in 58mm, 67mm, 72mm and 82mm sizes. Additional diameter sizes will follow in January 2012: 43mm and 46mm for UV filters and 95 mm for both polarisers and UV filters. The T* anti-reflective coating used on these filters minimises flare on glass-air surfaces and improves light transmission.

Schilt Publishing has announced the upcoming exhibition and book launch of Michelle Sank?s photographic series The Submerged at Hotshoe Gallery, London. The Submerged was produced within Mid-Wales in the hilly and coastal areas around Aberystwyth, and portrays “a grittiness evident in the geological and architectural fabric of the place”, the publisher says. We had a brief opportunity to try out the new Pentax Q camera yesterday. Here are 72 sample JPEG photos, 27 RAW images, and a Full HD movie taken with the tiny new Pentax Q interchangeable lens camera. There's also a full ISO range from 125 to 6400 so that you can see exactly what the Pentax Q's 12 megapixel 1/2.3" back-illuminated CMOS sensor is capable of.

The JVC GC-PX10 is a hybrid digital camera that takes 12-megapixel stills and 1080p full HD video sampled at 36Mbps. Featuring 32 gigabytes of built-in flash memory plus a slot for SDXC/SDHC/SD cards, the JVC GC-PX10 can even shoot stills and video simultaneously. Other highlights include 300fps slow-motion movie capture at VGA resolution, 10x optical zoom with optical image stabilisation, a 3” tiltable touch-sensitive screen, time-lapse recording and a top sensitivity setting of ISO 6400.
