LaCie has released a USB 3.0 driver for Mac OS, which, when used in conjunction with the company’s USB 3.0 expansion cards, allows Mac users to experience USB 3.0 speeds. Hint App today announces photodream and photodream lite version 2.1.0 for iOS devices. Photodream is an app that allows users to edit their pictures, change colours, rotate and crop images, and share them on social networking sites. While photodream lite is free, photodream 2.1.0 costs $1.99, and available exclusively through the App Store in the Photography category.

A new Android-based trial version of ViewRanger GPS is now available for download. The new version, “ViewRanger GPS Free Trial,” is a fully featured app offered to Android users free of charge for 15 days. Tonight, the Vienna Tourist Board is holding a 3D projection photography competition outside London‘s award winning Imagination building.Using cutting-edge 3D projection technology, the the Edwardian-era building will be digitally ‘reskinned’ and transformed into a living 3D taste of Vienna. The five-minute projection will encompass elements of Viennese art, culture, music, food and architecture. The Vienna Tourist Board is challenging photographers to capture the event, for a chance to win a weekend holiday for two to Vienna (including travel, dinner and accommodation). The projection starts tonight at 8pm.

The Sony Professional PMW-F3 camcorder is based on a Super 35mm sensor and PL mount technology. “Designed for television, commercials, music promos and budget features, the new camcorder is offered at a price point that will bring Super 35mm shooting within reach of a wider audience,” the company claims. Two configurations of the PMW-F3 will be available (PMW-F3L body only and PMW-F3K with PL lens kit including 35/50/85mm T2.0 fixed focal length lenses). Cisco today announced a new accessory programme for Flip Video called “Designed for Flip”. New accesories will include a range of products initially including battery chargers, a pocket projector, and waterproof cases. A key component of the Designed for Flip initiative is a new Flip Video feature called FlipPort. The FlipPort is a uniquely developed connector found on the bottom of the new Flip UltraHD—announced last month—that will become a standard feature on future generations of Flip Videos. The FlipPort will allow a range of specialised accessories to easily plug right in to Flip video cameras. The Designed for Flip line will debut several products starting today and then continue to roll out more accessories in the New Year and beyond.

NikonImages.com, a free gallery for sharing photos captured with Nikon gear, has gone live. Users can not only upload their pictures but can also search for images captured with specific Nikon lenses, follow photographers as they upload new images, see who is “remembering” - keeping track of - their photos, present their shots in slide shows and so on. The site follows the tried-and-trusted design pioneered by its sister sites, ZeissImages.com and LeicaImages.com.

Kodak has announced a brand new 29-megapixel image sensor, billed as the highest resolution CCD based on Interline Transfer technology. With a pixel pitch of 5.5 microns, the Kodak KAI-29050 “sets a new benchmark for high-resolution, low noise image capture for applied imaging markets”, according to Kodak. Supporting up to 4 frames per second (fps), the new sensor has been “designed in a 35mm optical format”, which in our understanding means its dimensions are close to that of the 36x24mm frame size used in most 35mm film cameras. The Kodak KAI-29050 will be on display at the Vision 2010 Trade Show, which opens on 9th November in Stuttgart, Germany; and mass production is scheduled for mid-2011.

The Marumi Ring Flash is now available in the UK with a Sony fit. Designed for close up, macro, medical, scientific and forensic photography, the device consists of a Main Control Unit which fits directly onto the camera hot shoe and a separate Ring Flash Unit which connects to the lens filter thread. La Maison is a new series of books by Lesothan photographer Koto Bolofo. Bolofo’s dream came true in 2004 when he started working for Monde d’Hermès, photographing craftsmen making handbags, saddles, scarves, prêt-à-porter, and shoes. The result is a collection of 11 books published by Steidl. Priced at £103 / €115 / $125, La Maison will be released in December.

Wedding & Portrait Photographers International (WPPI) today announced that registration is now open for WPPI 2011 via its convention and trade show website. Billed as the largest annual expo and conference in the world for professional photographers, WPPI 2011 will be held at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, from 17-24 February 2011. The early bird registration rate is $199 for members and $379 for non-members. After 15th December, WPPI 2011 registration will be $259 for members and $399 for non-members.
