A revised edition of Doug Harman’s Digital Photography Handbook will hit the shops in early November. Part one looks at cameras, lenses and other hardware accessories and explains the technology behind them. Part two explores the art of photography itself, from composing a shot to considerations such as depth of field, focus or exposure. Part three moves into the digital darkroom to show readers the solutions to common problems, while a series of masterclasses focuses on professional image manipulation techniques and artistic effects, breaking them down into step-by-step stages for readers to follow. The 254-page book is priced at £6.99.

Lastolite has announced a new range of light modifiers and other accessories. These include the TriGrip Difflector, the world’s first dual purpose reflector panel which can be used as both a diffuser and a soft silver bounce reflector, the Strobo, a compact and simple to use, creative light modifying system which fits directly onto a battery operated flash, the Micro Apollo MkII, an ultra portable, collapsible softbox with two layers of diffusion, the Umbrella TriFold, an ultra compact shoot-through umbrella which packs down to just 8 inches long, as well as several new additions to the Lastolite Ezybox Hotshoe range. Further product information and exact availability dates will be released in the coming weeks, the manufacturer says.

Nero has introduced two new high definition solutions: Nero Multimedia Suite 10 Platinum HD and Nero Video Premium HD. Nero Multimedia Suite 10 Platinum HD (£79.99) builds upon the robust, 3-in-1 multimedia management tools introduced earlier this year in Nero Multimedia Suite 10, which focused on video editing, burning and backup. The Platinum HD version introduces BD-Live 2.0 Blu-ray playback capabilities and new tools - including the Move It plug-in for easy media transfer and the Nero Creative Collection Pack 1 with new Picture-in-Picture effects - to help create, edit, burn, backup and share HD content. Nero Video Premium HD (£59.99) blends the powerful video editing capabilities of Nero Vision Xtra with myriad creative effects and Blu-ray playback to simplify the task of advanced video editing. Both products will be available starting on 14th October.

Enlight Photo has announced the Frio, a cold shoe with a unique dual lock system. The Frio lets any hot shoe accessory (most flash units, some microphones, LED light panels etc.) be mounted to any support with a 1/4?-20 standard stud, including various tripods, monopods, light stands and clamps. Featuring Enlight Photo’s ‘Slip-n-Click’ technology, the dual lock system of the Frio gives photographers the assurance that their gear is safe during every photo shoot, on location and in the studio alike. The Frio will officially be launched in October. Pricing to be confirmed.

Photomatix Pro 4.0 is the latest version of the popular High Dynamic Range (HDR) processing software. Version 4 of Photomatix Pro principally adds a selective deghosting tool, preset thumbnails panel, high quality noise reduction and the ability to tone map a single image in 8 bits/channel mode. Photomatix Pro 4.0 costs $99. The upgrade from version 3 to version 4 is free of charge for registered users.

The Z-Finder EVF is a new electronic viewfinder for HDSLR cameras. The Z-Finder EVF is a 3.2” high resolution monitor that allows you to operate the DSLR camera with the correct form factor for video, providing better resolution and enhancing the stability. The Zacuto Z-Finder EVF monitor resolution is a true 800×480 making the resolution 56% greater than on-board DSLR camera screens. The Z-Finder EVF is currently in prototype and will be available in February 2011.

Think Tank Photo has just upgraded its Urban Disguise series shoulder bags. The Urban Disguise V2-0 bags are larger than their predecessors, and feature multiple pockets, YKK lockable zipper sliders, a comfortable, padded shoulder strap, and a seam-sealed rain cover. Five models will be available come October, three of which include special laptop / netbook compartments. “This design concept is the culmination of years of observation of photojournalists and other photographers who have jury-rigged their bags to decrease their public exposure,” said Think Tank Photo founder and lead designer Doug Murdoch.  “Whether you are a professional who wishes to maintain a lower profile in dangerous situations or a serious amateur who wishes to lessen the risk of having your gear ripped off, the Urban Disguise’s low profile allows you to carry the right gear with less fear.”

Think Tank Photo has completely redesigned its line-up of Digital Holsters. Available in early October in five sizes, their expandable “Pop Down” section allows them to hold lenses of two different vertical heights with the hood in position or with it reversed. A feature new to V2.0 is the built-in side attachment system compatible with most Modular, Skin, or Multimedia components. The Digital Holsters also feature a side pocket for holding memory cards, a soft flap to cover the camera’s LCD, a shoulder strap, and an externally accessible seam-sealed rain cover in every model.

Kata has launched a new range of light-weight, protective holsters Available in five different sizes and two colours, the Kata Grip DL holsters can be attached to an ordinary belt or photo harness system and also feature a top handle for easy carrying, together with a shoulder strap. Each Grip holster also comes with a Kata rain cover for added protection. Pricing varies between £24.95 for the smallest Kata Grip-10 DL, ideal for a compact or bridge camera, and £69.95 for the largest Kata Grip-18 DL designed to accommodate a pro DSLR with 70-200 f2.8 lens attached (see picture above).

Redrock Micro have announced the new microEVF electronic viewfinder for HDSLR cameras. The Redrock microEVF is the first electronic viewfinder designed from the ground up specifically for HDSLRs, The new Redrock microEVF is an external electronic viewfinder that connects to the camera body and can be placed anywhere for maximum comfort and stability, and can be part of a multi-monitor solution. The microEVF uses a custom made state-of-the-art backlit LED fitted in an attractive, ergonomic housing. Redrock MicroEVF is priced at $595, availability has not yet been announced.

The Complete National Geographic features 121 years of the iconic magazine’s content. Available in a box set of six DVD-ROMs and on hard drive, The Complete National Geographic includes every printed page of the more than 1,400 issues, including over 200,000 photographs, from October 1888 through December 2009. Canon USA is launching the Your Second Shot advertising campaign to promote the Canon HS SYSTEM. Available in the new PowerShot G12, S95, SD4500 IS and SD4000 IS Digital cameras, this system combines the DIGIC 4 Image Processor with a High-Sensitivity sensor. and helps to reduce noise at high ISO levels and expand the camera’s dynamic range. The Your Second Shot campaign’s new commercial was shot entirely with Canon’s EOS 5D Mark II Digital SLR camera and EF lenses. Beginning today, the Your Second Shot campaign can be seen on television, in print and online.
