Lisa Visser has been named as the 2008 British Professional Photographer of the Year. The announcement was made at the British Professional Photography Awards (BPPA) in Newcastle on Sunday 19th October. Lisa, based at Hamilton Studios in East Grinstead, West Sussex has been a portrait photographer since 1988 and is recognised as one of the UK’s top child and baby photographers.

2008 British Professional Photographer of the Year announced

Lisa Visser has been awarded the coveted title of British Professional Photographer of the Year 2008.

The announcement was made at the British Professional Photography Awards (BPPA) in Newcastle on Sunday 19th October. The Awards are run by the Master Photographers Association (MPA) and the British Institute of Professional Photography (BIPP), collectively representing the majority of professional photographers in the UK.

A packed audience of professional photographers and trade representatives attended the prestigious event held at the Gatsehead Hilton on the banks of the River Tyne. Dozens of the world’s top photographers were presented with major accolades.

Lisa, based at Hamilton Studios in East Grinstead, West Sussex has been a portrait photographer since 1988 and is recognised as one of the UK’s top child and baby photographers. This is the latest in a long line of triumphs for Lisa, and it’s certainly the most important. In addition to the main award Lisa also collected first prize in the Under 5 Portrait and Classical Portrait sections.

Qualified MPA and BIPP members from around the world submitted images for the annual competition and only the very best were short-listed. This year’s judging panel was chaired by Simon John FBIPP FMPA. He paid tribute to the standard of the entries: “There was a great diversity of imagery, and all were judged on the same criteria - artistic merit, good use of lighting, composition and print quality - all the winners were of a very high overall standard. Wining the British Professional Photographer of the Year title is a huge honour and I’m sure Lisa will use the award to help further her career.”
