AppCam Acquires Virtual Grid

AppCam today announced that it had acquired the rights for Virtual Grid, a new technology which makes it possible to replace the mechanical dials of digital cameras with sensory optimised, virtual dials directly on the touchscreen. The term "sensory optimised" means that a 3D line pattern is pressed into the glass screen above the touchscreen field which gives the fingertips a sensory feedback. This feedback, in conjunction with acoustic clicks, allows the user to handle the camera as accurately and reliably as with a mechanical dial. With the Virtual Grid technology it is now possible to replace these dials more than adequately with a touchscreen solution, clearing one of the major obstacles from the introduction of the AppCam Control System for digital cameras.

We are pleased to inform you  that AppCam has acquired the rights for Virtual Grid© in August 2013. Virtual Grid is a technique which enables to replace the mechanical dials of digital cameras with sensory optimized, virtual dials directly on the touchscreen.

Touchscreen dials are recently used in technology. How well they work can be seen for example in the AppCam video on our homepage www.appcam.org. The dials shown there are not real but only shown on the touch screen of a Samsung tablet.

The only disadvantage of these virtual dials so far has been that they have no sensory clicking points, that they can not be felt with the fingertip and also that they can not be operated blindly. Virtual Grid now allows all these functions. In this case, a 3D line pattern is pressed into the glass screen above the touchscreen field which gives the fingertips a sensory feedback. This feedback, in conjunction with acoustic clicks, allows the user to handle the camera as accurately and reliably as a mechanical dial.

Virtual Grid is therefore the perfect complement to the AppCam Control System for digital cameras:

The ideal operating element of a camera is the mode dial. It allows the direct access to a function without the circuitous use of buttons or complex menu structures. The speed of operation and the possibility to individually customize all camera functions with the AppCam operating system outperform previous operation systems of digital cameras.

Major obstacle to the introduction of the AppCam operating system has previously been the significant effort to integrate the large amount of mechanical dials. With the Virtual Grid technology it is now possible to replace these dials more than adequately with a touchscreen solution.
