Contributors that sign up for the new website will be asked to agree to the new Corbis Online Agreement, which includes enhancements like eliminating the “foreign office fee,” which currently takes a percentage of the royalties paid to contributors on sales made outside of their designated home country. Existing Corbis contributors will be invited to begin using the gateway in phases as their current contracts come up for renewal.

Corbis Introduces New Contributor Website
New “Corbis Contributor Gateway” provides a single place for contributors to manage their relationship with Corbis
NEW YORK (October 27, 2010) – Corbis Images (www.corbisimages.com), a leading visual media provider for the creative community, today announced the launch of the new Corbis Contributor Gateway, a website specifically created for Corbis contributors to make it easier than ever for them to work with Corbis. The announcement was made today at a Corbis Artist Forum in New York City attended by dozens of top photographers.
“This is the start of a new era in how we communicate and interact with our contributors,” said Don Wieshlow, Senior Vice President, Products. “Contributors will now have 24/7 access to Corbis and a host of online tools that will help them have a competitive edge in today’s fast paced digital world.”
Contributors will have their own personal online profile where they can use automated upload tools to easily submit and manage their work, including providing keyword suggestions and model releases where applicable. They will have access to the latest information and Creative Research from Corbis, and be able to view their royalty statements. Corbis also plans to add community features soon so contributors can more easily engage with each other and share information.
Contributors that sign up for the new website will be asked to agree to the new Corbis Online Agreement, a new standard Corbis agreement with contributors moving forward. The new Online Agreement includes enhancements designed to provide more flexibility and transparency in line with the practices of doing business in the internet age.
One noteworthy enhancement to the Online Agreement is eliminating the “foreign office fee,” which currently takes a percentage of the royalties paid to contributors on sales made outside of their designated home country. Under the new agreement, contributors will be paid a uniform percentage of royalties from sales of their work, regardless of where in the world it is sold. While their agreement royalty rate may be adjusted slightly to compensate, their effective royalty rate – the royalties they actually earn from sales globally – will increase for nearly all contributors. This significantly simplifies how Corbis calculates royalties and gives increased transparency to Corbis contributors.
Contributors using the Gateway will also have the option to submit work on an exclusive, co-exclusive or non-exclusive basis, enhancing the flexibility and control contributors have over how they distribute and market their work.
Existing Corbis contributors will be invited to begin using the Gateway in phases as their current contracts come up for renewal. For more information on Corbis’ new Contributor Gateway, view the “Introduction to the Corbis Contributor Gateway” video here.
