Fellowship 14 International Photography Competition

Silver Eye Center for Photography has announced the call for entries for Fellowship 14, its international photography competition. Now in its 14th year, this competition recognises both rising talent and established photographers. You may submit up to ten (10) images from a cohesive, exhibition-ready body of work created within the past three years. Award recipients will be selected by the juror on the basis of exceptional, distinctive talent as evidenced by the strength of their submitted portfolios. The juror is especially interested in seeing portfolios with a strong narrative thrust and highly individual, original points of view. Silver Eye Center for Photography announces a Call for Entries for Fellowship 14, our international photography competition. Now in its 14th year, this competition recognizes both rising talent and established photographers from all corners of the globe and from the state of Pennsylvania.
This year's judge is Linda Benedict-Jones, Curator of Photography, Carnegie Museum of Art, Pittsburgh, PA.
Deadline for submissions via Silver Eye's website (www.silvereye.org/f14-submit) is Monday, October 21, 2013, 11:59:59 pm EST.
Awards
One (1) International Award Winner receives a solo exhibition at Silver Eye opening late-January 2014; $3,000 cash prize; an online gallery on Silver Eye's website (with link to artist website); and media outreach and promotion.
One (1) Keystone Award Winner, reserved for a Pennsylvania artist, receives a spotlight exhibition in late-January 2014; $1,000 cash prize; an online gallery on Silver Eye's website (with link to artist website); and media outreach and promotion.
Five (5) Judges' Commendation Winners will be named on Silver Eye's website and press releases.
Eligibility
All U.S. and international amateur and professional photographers, age 18 and older at the time of submission, may apply.
Silver Eye staff and their relatives, board members, current interns, and past Fellowship winners are not eligible to apply.
Judge
Linda Benedict-Jones is Curator of Photography at Carnegie Museum of Art in Pittsburgh, PA. Prior to this, Linda served as the Executive Director of Silver Eye Center for Photography from 1999 to 2008 and has also served as Curator of Education at The Frick Art & Historical Center (Pittsburgh, PA). Linda earned a Master's Degree in Visual Studies from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1982 and has taught courses in photography at a number of universities including the London College of Printing, England; Harvard Extension School; and Carnegie Mellon University.
Selection Criteria
Award recipients will be selected by the juror on the basis of exceptional, distinctive talent as evidenced by the strength of their submitted portfolios. The juror is especially interested in seeing portfolios with a strong narrative thrust and highly individual, original points of view.
Judging
There are two (2) rounds of evaluation. Winners will be notified via phone immediately following the decision of the juror. Non-selected photographers will be notified by email shortly thereafter. Decisions of the juror are final and binding.
What to Enter
The submission you are entering is comprised of three individual items: 1) a one-page Artist's Statement in PDF format; 2) your biography or CV in PDF format, and 3) your work sample.
You may submit up to ten (10) images from a cohesive, exhibition-ready body of work created within the past three years. Or, if from an ongoing project, the portfolio must include images created within the past three years.
Submitted work may not have been previously exhibited at Silver Eye or in the Greater Pittsburgh region.
For the best image quality and fast upload, image files must be no larger than 1,500 pixels wide, and saved as a .JPG size 8.

Fees
$15 for current Silver Eye members at the $40 level and above, with membership valid through January 31, 2014.
$60 for non-Silver Eye members.
Those interested in becoming a member or renewing their membership at the time of submission may do so at the $40 membership level and then pay an additional $15 to submit-a $5 savings, for a total cost of $55.

Exhibition Guidelines
Awards are given as prizes to the winning artists, and artists are not required to cover the cost of exhibition expenses.
If chosen as an award recipient, artists must provide work that is already printed, matted, if necessary, framed, and exhibition-ready. Silver Eye Center for Photography will not print, matte, or frame work.
The artist pays for one-way shipping with an agreed-upon carrier such as FedEx and for expenses related to the packing of the work.
Silver Eye Center for Photography will cover return shipping using a price-match of the cost of shipping for initial delivery. Receipts must be submitted by the artist to Silver Eye to verify shipping costs. If the price of return shipping exceeds the price-match, the artist will cover the difference for the cost.
