Nikon Camera Range Positioning 2019

October 11, 2019 | Mark Goldstein | Comment |

With the recent launch of the Z50 mirrorless camera, Nikon have updated their camera range positioning, as of October 2019.

There are now 10 Nikon interchangeable lens cameras on the market - a mix of 3 mirrorless and 7 DSLRs, 5 full-frame and 5 APS-C.

Looking at the list below, it's quite surprising how Nikon view their own products internally.

For example, the D500 is only in the "Enthusiast" category, when most owners would probably consider it to be a professional grade camera.

This is presumably because it has an APS-C rather than full-frame sensor, which Nikon seem to think is a pre-requisite for being a professional level product - the first 5 cameras in the list all have full-frame sensors.

It's also surprising to see the new Z50 positioned alongside the D7500, rather than the D5600 that it more closely resembles in terms of specification, perhaps because the D5600 is available at around half the price of the Z50.
