Nikon UK, 9 Feb 2011 - Nikon today unveils three new compact cameras to join its COOLPIX Style series. The trio consists of the S3100, the ultra-slim and stylish successor to the enormously popular S3000, the S4100 with smart touch operation, and the 16 megapixel S6100 compact shooter with 7x zoom lens.

The COOLPIX S3100 builds on the success of the COOLPIX S3000, Europe’s best selling camera of 2010 , offering an ultra-slim (18.4mm) body, greater zoom, improved screen brightness and HD (720p) movie recording.

“These three new additions offer something for a range of tastes: the S3100 is slender but feature-packed, with HD video and an impressive zoom range; the S4100 goes one step further with its touch screen capabilities; and the S6100 offers an even greater zoom range to get you closer to the action, with more megapixels to make even better enlargements. Whichever model you choose, with the COOLPIX Style series you can be assured that you’ll have a camera to be proud of,” said Sander van Velzen, Product Manager for Consumer Products at Nikon Europe.

Style and substance – the S3100
Slim enough to slip into any pocket, the slender COOLPIX S3100 is perfect for capturing photos and HD movie clips in style. It comes in seven striking colours and offers a great range of smart features to make taking high quality images and capturing HD video even easier and more fun.

Packaging up great technology with ease of use, the S3100 combines a 5x wide-angle zoom NIKKOR lens with a 14 megapixel CCD image sensor to deliver outstandingly detailed shots that look stunning even when enlarged. For memories that demand more than an image, a dedicated movie-record button makes it easy to instantly switch to filming the action.

Housing Nikon’s Smart Portrait system, the S3100 also ensures perfect photos even from the most camera-shy subjects, with features like Smile Timer, Blink Proof and Skin Softening to ensure everyone looks their best. Once you have the shot you want, getting creative with it could not be simpler as the camera’s range of easy-to-apply filter effects lets you edit images in-camera, without needing a computer.

The COOLPIX S3100 comes in seven colours: purple, red, black, blue, pink, citrus yellow and silver.

A smart touch – the S4100
For those who want the latest technology and style, this clever 14 megapixel camera comes in five appealing colours, including red and bronze, has an intuitive 7.5 cm (3 in.) high resolution 460K dot touch control LCD screen, and is slim enough to be pocket-friendly and taken anywhere.

By simply touching the screen you can scroll through your pictures, or use the Touch Shutter to take a picture – the camera will automatically set the correct focus and exposure for the touched item. Whenever the mood takes you, you can also switch to filming in high-definition (720p) using the dedicated movie-record button.

The COOLPIX S4100’s wide angle 5x zoom NIKKOR lens offers consistently sharp results and four advanced blur-reduction functions to minimise the effects of subject movement, low light and camera shake. Images can also be edited in-camera effortlessly, with easy-to-use filter effects such as Selective Colour, which converts your image to monochrome then adds a splash of colour to an area of your choice, and Cross Screen, that adds a starry effect to bright objects.

The COOLPIX S4100 comes in three colours: red, black, purple.

Get even closer to the action – the S6100
Bringing with it even more cutting edge technology, the stylish S6100 is ideal for those who want advanced features in a slim body. It packs a wide-angle 7x zoom NIKKOR lens and a 16 megapixel image sensor that delivers photos so pin-sharp that even poster-sized enlargements look great. The 7.5 cm (3 in.) high resolution 460k dot touch screen enables intuitive operation, with fingertip control over shooting and playback, and HD movie recording at the touch of a button.

Beautifully detailed shots are assured thanks to four different anti-blur functions that automatically minimize the effects of camera shake, subject movement or low light. Lens-shift Vibration Reduction is just one of the advanced technologies that ensures superior results, so that even if you’re shooting moving subjects at full zoom, the COOLPIX S6100 will deliver clear, crisp pictures every time.

The COOLPIX S6100 comes in five colours: violet, black, red, pink and silver.

About Nikon
Founded in Japan in 1917, Nikon has grown to become the world leader in digital and precision optics technology with a strong presence in all four corners of the world.

Through its award-winning product line-up, including entry-level and professional digital SLR cameras, interchangeable NIKKOR lenses and the consumer COOLPIX range, Nikon regularly raises the standard in product design and performance. With over 90 years of engineering expertise, it is no wonder that Nikon is the top choice for photographers around the world.

In 2009, Nikon celebrated two key milestones in the lens category – the 50th anniversary of its legendary F-mount SLR lens-mounting system, making it the only manufacturer to sustain its original lens mount for such a long period, and has recently exceeded production of over 55 million NIKKOR lenses. Both highlight Nikon’s dedication to producing quality and functional products that can be used by photographers for years to come.

Nikon also produces equipment such as IC and LCD steppers and scanners, instruments such as microscopes and semiconductor inspection equipment. Other products include sports optics products such as binoculars, rangefinders and fieldscopes, ophthalmic lenses and surveying instruments. It is the only major optical company in the world that still controls and manufactures every aspect of its glass-making business, allowing it to finely tune Nikon lens specifications, quality and performance.

Nikon has consolidated net global sales of 785,499 million Japanese Yen (year ending 31 March, 2010) and Nikon Corporation is listed on the Tokyo stock exchange.
