Olympus Uk Press Release

To celebrate our centenary Olympus are commissioning portraits of people born in 1918/1919 to create a stunning book and exhibition that celebrates life.

Are you 100 years old?

London, 27.09.2018 – October is portrait month for Olympus and in preparation for our 100 year anniversary in 2019 we have launched a search for 100 year olds to create a unique portrait project.

The project is threefold;

Supporting photographers and ambassadors via portrait commissions within their area; we want to photograph as many 100 year olds as possible throughout the UK so will be relying on photographers who are local to travel to locations and make is as easy as possible for our models.

Celebrating life; reaching 100 years old is a fantastic milestone, to be able to capture a professional portrait for the family and to include the project would be a great opportunity, uniting photographers and 100 year olds, sharing stories and celebrating together!

Marking Olympus own 100 year anniversary; cameras and photography can capture a moment, tell a story, share a talent. What better way to mark the occasion than by celebrating with centenarians.

If you know someone who is approaching this momentous landmark and think they would be willing to have their portrait taken professionally to become part of this amazing project, please pass details of the campaign or apply directly at:

We aim to take a wonderful portrait that captures them at their best and if appropriate feature a quote from them that might shed light on their secret to longevity or simply some words of wisdom garnered over their lifetime.

In October 1919 Takeshi Yamashita founded the company we know today as Olympus, specialising in the manufacture of microscopes and thermometers. 100 years along the line, Olympus’ history of excellence continues with a range of award-winning mirrorless cameras and high-quality lenses.

Reaching the grand old age of 100 years is obviously something that should be celebrated. And while Olympus won’t be receiving a birthday card from the Queen, we would like to mark our centenary by celebrating with fellow centenarians in a unique way.

We are commissioning a group of Olympus photographic Ambassadors to take portraits of centenarians born in 1918 and 1919 with the results collated into a celebratory book and accompanying exhibition at our London art gallery.
