Olympus has announced that the most talented members of its PEN Flickr group will get a chance to have their best work featured on the Olympus website as well as in upcoming PEN adverts. Alongside international recognition, there’s also a financial reward for members whose pictures are chosen for the campaign. For example, generous credits for the Olympus online shop where they can choose from the complete Olympus product line-up, including the growing range of Micro Four Thirds lenses and PEN accessories. Or one of three new PEN cameras: the flagship PEN E-P3, the PEN Lite (pictured) or the PEN Mini. You can join the Olympus PEN Flickr group at the website below.

Olympus seeking Flickr member photos for PEN ads

Hamburg, October 2011 – For hobby photographers, there couldn’t be a better incentive to share photos online: the chance to see their best shots displayed on billboards and in magazines all over Europe – and even to appear themselves in a major ad campaign. That’s the reward in store for the most talented members of Olympus’ Flickr group, a community dedicated to sharing excellent photos taken with Olympus cameras. Olympus PEN users have already starred in recent international PEN campaigns, proving that PEN cameras give hobby photographers the image quality and user-friendliness they need to take professional-quality photographs.

Posting potential, gallery greats
The Olympus Flickr group gives its members the motivation and means to make the most of their photographic talents. Much like Olympus PEN cameras themselves. By joining the group, members get the chance to see their photos displayed in the public gallery on the Olympus PEN website. Flickr automatically selects the most popular shots for the PEN site. There’s a steady supply of fantastic quality pictures from members of the public who own a PEN – photos that really stand out. In fact, PEN cameras seem to encourage their owners to develop what you could call a distinct PEN style. A lot of the gallery images show everyday situations shot from unusual perspectives, often with filters. Ordinary scenes that suddenly look anything but. There’s also a spontaneity to the pictures that sets them apart from regular photo site fare. A lot of city-based members post shots with a slice-of-life feel. Like an urban documentary. The design of PEN cameras is clearly an influence here. The cameras are light and compact, which of course makes them easier to carry around. But they’re also compatible with a wide range of filters and lenses, and they’re very fast to focus. That has helped cultivate the individual, off-the-cuff style of the gallery.

Star appeal, rich rewards
Olympus is always on the lookout for new talent – and for proof that their PEN cameras give photographers of every ability the chance to take SLR-quality photos. Recent PEN ad campaigns show that’s no empty promise. Several PEN owners not only provided the beautiful images for the campaigns, they also went on camera themselves to share their techniques and experience of using their PEN. For the next campaign, Olympus wants to put PEN Flickr members and their work centre stage. Alongside international recognition, of course there’s a financial reward for members whose pictures are chosen for the campaign. For example, generous credits for the Olympus online shop where they can choose from the complete Olympus product line-up, including the growing range of top-class Micro Four Thirds lenses and PEN accessories. Or one of three new PEN cameras: the flagship PEN E-P3, the PEN Lite or the PEN mini.
