The Olympus Zuiko digital camera is a new flagship compact featuring the critically acclaimed ZUIKO lens system. In addition to the premium lens, the Olympus Zuiko will also be compatible with accessories for Olympus’ PEN E-P2 and E-PL1 cameras. Other than a first quarter of 2011 sale date, no other details about the new Olympus compact have been released. A mock-up of the new flagship compact will be on show at Photokina, so expect some hands-on product shots very soon.

Olympus developing world’s first digital compact camera with built-in ZUIKO lens

Hamburg, 20 September 2010 – Olympus is developing a new flagship digital compact camera that for the first time will incorporate a lens from its critically acclaimed ZUIKO lens system. A mock-up of the new flagship compact will go on show from 21 to 26 September at Photokina, the world’s leading fair for photography and imaging, held in Cologne, Germany. Olympus Imaging President Masaharu Okubo expects the new camera to go on sale in the first quarter of 2011.

In addition to a lens from the award-winning ZUIKO system, the new camera’s accessory port will be compatible with accessories for Olympus’ ground-breaking PEN E-P2 and E-PL1 cameras. Other features and specifications are yet to be revealed.
