WedPics is a new free service providing a rich media platform for capturing, sharing and interacting with all the photos taken throughout your wedding. Comprising a website and a smartphone app, WedPics allows everyone to upload, view, share, and download pictures.  “No more need for disposable cameras at the table, guests can use the app at the wedding itself or afterwards via Smartphone or the website,” the company says. “In one click, the bride (or anyone with admin rights) can download all the pictures or send them to Facebook creating an instant photo book.” In addition, WedPics also provides an opportunity for professional wedding photographers to market their services to future brides.

Professional photographer Karoki Lewis will be hosting a travel photography workshop at the luxury Riad El Fenn in Marrakech, Morocco. Taking place from 13-18 January 2013, the course will mix creative tuition, challenging assignments, delicious food and a luxurious setting, and is suitable for all levels. Each day will consist of a tutorial, followed by a related assignment, and Karoki will accompany and guide aspiring photographers throughout. In the evenings, over drinks, the group will examine and discuss each day’s shoot. Prices start at £1,000 per person based on two sharing, including five nights’ full board accommodation at Riad El Fenn, house wine, transfers, tuition, supplies and all scheduled excursions but excluding airfare to and from Marrakech.

ICVT has updated its desktop application JPEGmini for Mac. With JPEGmini for Mac users can quickly optimise full photo albums simply by dragging them onto the app. The optimised photos are claimed to retain the full quality and resolution of the original photos, while being much smaller in file size. The latest upgrade adds support for resolutions of up to 28 megapixels. “With the new 28-megapixel upgrade, JPEGmini for Mac can now optimize photos shot with 99 percent of the camera models available on the market today,” the company says. In a special introductory holiday offer, from now until 24th December, the full version of JPEGmini for Mac, which regularly retails for $19.99, is available for $9.99. In addition, ICVT is introducing JPEGmini Lite for Mac, a free version of JPEGmini for Mac that offers optimisation of up to 20 photos per day.

Canon has issued a service notice concerning the Canon EOS 6D digital SLR camera. “We have identified a phenomenon which prevents movie files shot using Canon EOS 6D digital SLR cameras from being played back on YouTube,” the company says. Promising to “continue to investigate this phenomenon,,” Canon has come up with a temporary solution. They suggest that EOS 6D owners wishing to upload their movie clips to YouTube take the following steps: 1) download the movie file(s) from the EOS 6D camera to your computer, 2) start ImageBrowser EX, 3) after selecting the movie file(s) to be uploaded select [Edit Movies] in the [Edit] tab from the menu bar of ImageBrowser EX, 4) save the movie using the [Save] menu on the screen, 5) upload the saved movie to YouTube.

Akvis has released Coloriage 9.0, a program that enables users to colorise blakc-and-white photos and replace colours in full-colour images. The new update incorporates improvements to the Eyedropper tool, new features and tools, fixes bugs, and adds compatibility with Windows 8 and Mac OS X 10.8. The Nokia Lumia 620 is the third and most affordable in Nokia’s new range of Windows Phone 8 smartphones. The winners and runners-up of the EEF Photography Awards 2012 have been unveiled at an exclusive ceremony at the House of Commons in London. The theme for this year’s competition was Made in Britain and entrants were challenged to submit photos that championed the spirit of manufacturing in Britain. The winner of the professional category was Mike Smith’s ‘Precision’ (above). ‘Manufacturing a Filter’ by Robert Watkins, from Warrington, was the winner of the amateur category: a black-and-white image of a welder applying the finishing touches to a filter at Crofts Engineering Services.
