Nikon has issued a firmware update for the Android-powered Nikon Coolpix S800c digital compact camera. According to the company, Version 1.1 incorporates the following improvements and fixes:

“Support for Hindi and Arabic has been added.

When a memory card inserted in the camera was ejected while an Android app saved to the camera’s internal SD card storage (internal SD card space) was running, operation of the Android OS sometimes became unstable. This issue has been resolved.

When the camera was turned on and then off, icons for Android apps saved to the camera’s internal SD card storage (internal SD card space) sometimes disappeared. This issue has been resolved.

An issue that sometimes caused unexpected termination of Wi-Fi connections has been resolved.

An issue that sometimes caused the camera to stop functioning when multiple Android apps were running has been resolved.

DPOF-compatible printers were sometimes unable to recognize information specified with print orders (playback menu>Print order). This issue has been resolved.”

InfoTrends’ recently completed study entitled The 2012 U.S. Interchangeable Lens Camera Market explores the growth of the digital interchangeable lens camera market and provides a five-year sales forecast for the United States. This market is divided into DSLR cameras and compact system cameras (which the report calls “compact interchangeable-lens cameras”). The demographics of DSLR and CSC owners look very similar: photo enthusiasts, knowledgeable about photography, weighted to males, affluent, and early adopters. Future CSC owner demographics reflect a more mainstream buyer, who may be stepping up from a point & shoot camera. Triggertrap has updated its Triggertrap Mobile app to allow wireless functionality via a Wi-fi network. With Triggertrap Mobile’s new Wi-Fi triggering mode, photographers can now trigger their cameras via a Wi-Fi enabled “slave” device that interfaces with the camera through the Triggertrap Dongle, while controlling the camera functionality from a “master” iOS device. The “slave” mode is included both in the iOS and Android app, while currently only an iOS device can act as a master. The new wireless functionality is now available as a free upgrade for existing Triggertrap Mobile users and will come standard with any new purchase.

Eighty-seven photographs have been shortlisted for the Made in Britain Photography Awards 2012, a nationwide competition run by the EEF, the UK manufacturers’ organisation. The organisers received over 800 images that celebrated the best of British design and manufacturing in three categories: professional, amateur and young person aged 14-19. An overall winner from each of the three entry groups will be awarded £5,000 worth of photographic equipment by sponsor Canon at a National Awards Ceremony in Westminster on 4 December 2012.

Happiness Engines have launched Colorized, a “social sketching” app for the iPhone. Colorized lets users snap a picture with their phone and then convert it into a pencil sketch. “Colorized helps turn that creative vision into a sharable sketch – to post to Facebook or Twitter, or to just share through the app itself in the stream of the community’s doodling,” the company says. “Colorized is the modern, social way to doodle.
