Canon has announced that the company is developing a new-concept EOS-series digital SLR camera equipped with a 35 mm full-frame CMOS sensor that will also be able to record 4K video. 4K is a relatively new resolution standard for digital cinematography, whose name comes from its approximately 4000 pixels of horizontal resolution (by comparison, Full HD delivers “only” 1920 pixels in the horizontal dimension). Further details regarding the new EOS digital SLR camera currently under development, including the product name, specifications and scheduled launch date, have yet to be decided.

Redrock Micro today announced the ultraCage | blue line of cinema accessories and support gear for the new generation of digital cinema cameras. The Redrock ultraCage | blue is the first cage designed specifically for the just-announced Canon EOS C300, while the ultraCage | blue Universal is a product that extends the features of the ultraCage to other cameras including HDSLRs and digital cinema cameras such as the Sony NEX-FS100 and Panasonic AG-AF100 among others. Official pricing has not yet been announced for the ultraCage, but cages are expected to start under US $750.

The Sony ECX332A is a 0.7” Organic LED micro-display with a resolution of 1280x720 pixels, designed for use in electronic viewfinders. According to OLED-Info.com, the new display covers 97% of the NTSC colour gamut and uses the same filter architecture as the smaller Sony ECX331A panel used in the EVFs of the Sony A65, A77 and NEX-7 cameras.

Phase one has released an update for Capture One. Version 6.3.2 adds support for raw files generated by the Samsung NX200, Pentax Q and Olympus E-PM1 compact system cameras. The ioShutter cable and app, developed by Enlight Photo, allow you to use an iPod touch, iPhone or iPad as a wired remote release for your Canon, Hasselblad or Pentax camera. Plug one end of the ioShutter cable into the device’s headphone jack and the other into the camera’s remote terminal, fire up the ioShutter app, and start taking pictures. “With your ioShutter cable plugged in, the free ioShutter app then gives you a ton of fun functions; options for Timers, Bulb setups for long exposures to get that great night sky or cityscape shot, Timelapse programmes and two unique world firsts: ClapToSnap sound trigger and ShakeToTake movement trigger,” says Enlight Photo founder James Madelin. The cables aren’t shipping yet but the ioShutter app can already be downloaded from iTunes. A more customisable Pro version will be available soon.

Lomography has just announced the LomoKino Super 35 movie camera. The LomoKino allows users to capture experimental “Lomographic” movies on 35mm film - a standard roll accommodates 144 “widescreen” movie frames with an exposure area of 24x8.5mm. The hand-cranked movie camera takes approximately 3-4 frames per second, so a roll of standard photographic film yields a 36-48-second movie. “After developing the film, spool it into the specially developed LomoKinoScope and watch your Lomographs moving over and over again,” the company says. The LomoKino can be bought as a standalone product (£65) or in a bundle with the LomoKinoScope viewer, one film canister and a book entitled, “Inventing the Lomokino” (£89).
