Canon is showcasing its EOS-1D X professional DSLR camera and Pixma Pro-1 photo inkjet printer at Photo Plus Expo in New York City. The Canon EOS-1D X features a 18-megapixel full-frame sensor, 61-point AF system, three DIGIC processors and continuous shooting speeds of up to 14 frames per second. The Pixma Pro-1 Professional Photo Inkjet printer boasts a newly developed 12-ink system, five of which are monochrome, along with a new FINE Print Head which helps deliver consistent results. In addition to these brand new products, Canon is also showcasing its complete line-up of photo related products, such as SLR camera bodies, lenses, PowerShot digital cameras, high definition camcorders and photo printers. Carl Zeiss has announced the Distagon T* 2/25 lens in Canon (ZE) and Nikon (ZF.2) versions. Constructed of 11 lens elements in 10 groups, this 25mm lens has a maximum aperture of f/2, a diagonal angle-of-view of 81 degrees and a filter thread size of 67mm. Recommended for interiors, architecture and landscape photography, the Carl Zeiss Distagon T* 2/25 will be available end of 2011 at an RRP of €1217+VAT.

The Royal Mail has unveiled a new 1st Class stamp collection which it describes as ‘26-stamp alphabetical odyssey around the UK – featuring images by two of the UK’s favourite landscape photographers, David Noton & Charlie Waite. The collection was launched with a presentation to David Cameron of the stamp representing ‘D’ – 10 Downing Street, featuring an image shot by David Noton (above). The other images in the series that were made by David were Glastonbury Tor, Harlech Castle, Ironbridge, Edinburgh Castle and Carrick a Rede.

Charity Technology Trust (CTT) is celebrating its ten-year anniversary by organising a photography competition open exclusively to people working at charities. The competition, entitled ‘A Day in the Life’, invites entrants to share their stories and capture what a day in the life of their charity means by submitting a snapshot. We got all hands-on with the new Canon EOS-1D X at the Canon Pro Solutions Show, which opened in London today. The above video demonstrates just how quick the 1D X’s continuous shooting speed will be when this new DSLR launches in March 2012.

Olympus has posted a firmware update for the Olympus E-P3 compact system camera. Version 1.1 fixes the following bugs: 1) with the optional add-on electronic viewfinder attached, certain touch-screen functions would not work properly, 2) when an Eye-Fi card was used, the camera would not show the AF target. These issues have been resolved. You can update the camera firmware from within the Digital Camera Updater software, while the XZ-1 connected to the computer.
