Sakiai, Lithuania-based Graphic Node has released a 16-piece design add-on for Apple’s Aperture application called Aperture Themes. According to the company, the Aperture Themes pack “allows Mac users to explore new ways of conveying their fondness for photography” by equipping them with an extensive collection of design choices for laying out their photos and other pictures in Aperture and exporting them into Web galleries. Eleven of the themes allow the user to display photos in their original sizes, while the remaining five crop images to squares and present them in elegant and tidy grids. The package is available on the Mac App Store for $24.99.

The Lomographic Society has released the La Sardina Deluxe Kit, which contains four La Sardina toy cameras and a flash called “Fritz the Blitz”. PDN’s 30 is an annual special issue published by PDN (Photo District News), an American photographic magazine. Each year more than 300 photographers nominated by photo industry professionals submit portfolios of their work, which are then evaluated over the course of several weeks by the creative director and editors of PDN. Fujifilm has just announced the Fujifilm FinePix F600EXR digital travelzoom camera, which features a 16-megapixel EXR CMOS sensor, 15x optical zoom, GPS Landmark Navigator, raw image capture and both automatic and manual exposure modes. The FinePix F600 EXR uses key aspects of the specification first seen on the F550 EXR, but adds extra functionality. The camera now features a new EXR Auto mode with a Motion Detection capability, making it better at deciding whether it needs to raise the ISO sensitivity to capture a blur-free shot in a low-light situation. The winner of the Nikon Photo Contest International (NPCI) 2010-2011 competition has been revealed. Billed as the biggest international photography competition in the world, NPCI 2011 saw more than 60,000 entries submitted by approximately 23,000 photographers from 153 countries. The winning image, “Learning to Fly” by Indian photographer Debarshi Duttagupta (above), was taken in Varanasi, India. Commenting on why the jury chose this photo as the overall winner, judge Hiromi Tsuchida said: “This image tells three stories in synchronicity, exhibiting the passage of time and the simultaneity of life.” A selection of the winning photographs will be on display at Getty Images Gallery, London, from 15 September until 13 October 2011.

Taking the form of a touring workshop that will call at 10 cities across the country, Photobook Month is aimed at photographers and photobook lovers looking to improve their photobook projects or get some inspiration from photographers and photobook experts.
