Pro for A Day

Photo Iconic has launched a new range of photography courses, designed to appeal to photographers, journalists, writers and authors. These new courses will teach participants how to shoot to a brief and illustrate a story which appeals to picture buyers and editors. After participants are taught how to shoot like a pro, with lots of practical opportunities and advice, plus repeated feedback, they’ll get the opportunity to photograph an actual event under the watchful guidance of the tutors. There are two courses for 2009: ‘A Country Life’ (July 4th-5th) covers the Heveningham Hall Country Fair, while ‘Sea to Table’ (September 26th-27th) explores the coastal villages and seafood beloved by Suffolk ‘foodies’. There is also the option to come back on the third day to review the images taken at the event and receive advice and feedback on composition, editing and picture selection. Each course also includes the option of a dinner at the 16th century Crown Hotel in Framlingham. Each course costs £345 for the first two days (to include the Suffolk produce dinner, but excluding accommodation), and the optional feedback day costs £95.

Pro for a Day Assignment
Learn to shoot to a brief and illustrate a story, with Photo Iconic
Photo Iconic has launched an innovative new range of photography courses, designed to appeal to photographers, journalists, writers and authors. These new courses will teach participants how to shoot to a brief and illustrate a story which appeals to picture buyers and editors.
On a Photo Iconic ‘Pro For a Day Assignment’ course, award-winning professional photographers with vast experience of illustrating newspaper and magazine features, brochures, websites and books will guide participants through the process of deciding what to shoot and how to shoot it, and show how to select and edit images which have impact and work for different usages.
Shooting a story or portfolio of photographs is crucial for anyone who wants to earn a living from their photographs, catch a picture editor’s eye, sell stock images, features or illustrate their own writing. It’s also a useful skill for any photographer who wants to do well in photographic competitions.
Based in beautiful Suffolk, these new courses offer a different way to learn how to take images. After participants are taught how to shoot like a pro, with lots of practical opportunities and advice, plus repeated feedback, they’ll get the opportunity to photograph an actual event under the watchful guidance of the tutors. ‘A Country Life’ (July) covers the Heveningham Hall Country Fair, while ‘Sea to Table’ (September) explores the coastal villages and seafood beloved by Suffolk ‘foodies’.
The assignments are based around country and coastal life, colourful and interesting events and local food production. These provide the opportunity to shoot a wide range of different images, from people, food and detail through to landscapes, places of interest and eye-catching activities, with a view to being able to illustrate a feature. And participants will have fun along the way, and sample some excellent local food and drink from land and sea.
On the first day tutors go through the process of shooting to a brief and show participants how to shoot a selection of images to illustrate a story or feature, photographing everything from food to people to local attractions - all key elements of a photo story. On day two the group will visit an actual event and learn to photograph it as if they’d been commissioned to shoot a feature for a magazine or newspaper.
There is also the option to come back on the third day to review the images taken at the event and receive advice and feedback on composition, editing and picture selection. Each course also includes the option of a dinner at the 16th century Crown Hotel in Framlingham, at which participants can enjoy some of the fantastic local Suffolk produce connected with their assignment, and even photograph it if they want to.
There are two courses for 2009:
A Country Life (July 4th-5th, optional feedback day July 6th), which takes participants on assignment to the colourful Heveningham Hall Country Fair, set in the grounds the 18th century stately home. A longstanding and highly popular event, the Heveningham Hall Country Fair has a mass of attractions to photograph, from falconry and dog races to marching bands, a flower show, food stands, Heveningham Hall itself and even sailing!
Sea to Table (September 26th-27th, optional feedback day, September 28th), which focuses on the coastal towns of Aldeburgh and Orford, the oysterage and the Aldeburgh food festival. This promises a rich source of images, from picturesque fishing boats and villages to the resulting seafood - both on the boat and on the plate!
The optional feedback days for each course are based at the Crown Hotel in the charming small market town of Framlingham. The Crown Hotel is offering discounted accommodation to participants in each course.
Each course costs £345 for the first two days (to include the Suffolk produce dinner, but excluding accommodation), and the optional feedback day costs £95. Discounted rooms are available at the Crown Hotel for £55 per room per night for a single room and £70 for a double.
