Images by the very best established and emerging contemporary photographers from across the world go on show this May as part of the 2014 Sony World Photography Awards Exhibition at Somerset House, London.
The exhibition showcases photography from across all disciplines, from fine art to photojournalism to lifestyle and, as one of the biggest of its kind in the UK, the show has expanded to both the East and West Wings of Somerset House.
The Sony World Photography Awards are one of the world’s leading photography competitions and the exhibition, which runs from 1-18 May, showcases the winning and shortlisted photographers from the 139,000 submissions of the 2014 edition.
Reflecting the very best international contemporary photography from the last year, the exhibition includes photographs to suit all tastes. Well-documented scenes are given a fresh look with ground-breaking photography styles and photographers of all abilities will be inspired to shoot their own view of the world.
The winning and shortlisted images featured were selected by a panel of industry experts from submissions by photographers from 166 countries. The diverse range of topics evoke many emotions and the show includes: humorous portraits of wet dogs at a grooming salon; glamorous behind-the-scenes pictures at a Brazilian drag queen pageant; stunning aerial images of Israel’s landscape; an intimate look at lions in their natural habitat and many touching stories which makes the viewer question how the photographer gained access to such personal moments.
The exhibition will open on Thursday 1 May, the day after the winners of the 2014 Sony World Photography Awards are announced at an awards ceremony in London. It will run until Sunday 18 May and a press preview will take place on Wednesday 30 April.
