Travel Photographer of the Year and Yosemite / Mariposa County team up for unique Ansel Adams prize

The Ansel Adams Gallery in Yosemite, USA, has added a very special extra element to the prize for the winner of the Monochromal portfolio category in the 2013 Travel Photographer of the Year (TPOTY) awards.

Yosemite/Mariposa County Tourism Bureau, San Francisco Travel and Sonoma County Tourism Bureau have joined forces so that the winner of Monchromal - the first-ever exclusively black & white category in the awards’ history - will see and experience the best of Northern California.

Now, the Ansel Adams Gallery – under the auspices of Matthew Adams, grandson of Ansel Adams and president of the company - is also supporting Monochromal. During their prize trip, the winner will visit the gallery and enjoy a private fine print viewing of Ansel Adams' original photographs. This promises to be an incredible, once-in-a-lifetime experience, as they are shown prints made by the photographer – who was a meticulous, master print maker.

The winner will also take part in a private 'In the Footsteps of Ansel Adams' photography experience in Yosemite, visiting a number of locations from where Adams composed some of his most famous images. At each location, they will have the opportunity to see the same image through their lens and work in greater depth with the scene around them, while receiving insight into Ansel's life, photography and philosophies.

Travel Photographer of the Year founder, Chris Coe, said, “Ansel Adams has been one of my photographic inspirations, so it gives me enormous pleasure that the Ansel Adams family, through the gallery, is supporting the Monochromal portfolio category. This is an extraordinary opportunity for any lover of the work of this legendary photographer and conservationist, and an opportunity for anyone not so familiar to discover the master under the guidance of his family.”

In addition to Monochromal, Travel Photographer of the Year 2013 has two other portfolio categories, two single image categories (including one for beginners), an HD video category, a New Talent award and a Young Travel Photographer of the Year award (for photographers aged 18 and under). All the winning images from TPOTY 2013 will be displayed at a major exhibition at London’s Royal Geographical Society (with IBG) in 2014.
