The Epson P-4000 currently represents the best compromise between having a laptop computer or one of the other portable storage devices on the market. You can use the Epson P-4000 both out in the field where speed, battery life and successful data transfers are key, and later for showing your work to clients, friends and family. The Epson P-4000 satisfies all of these requirements in an easy to use and very stylish way. Added bonuses are the ability to listen to MP3s and play digital video, although both file format support and playback features are rather limited when compared to a dedicated music player. The only downsides that I can think of are the non-upgradeable 80Gb hard drive, which may not be big enough in a couple of years time (depending on the particular camera that you use), the need to buy an adapter if you use anything other then Compact Flash, MicroDrive or SD memory cards, and RAW files from some digital cameras are not currently supported (although you can still store them on the P-4000). If you own the older P-2000, it isn't really worth upgrading to the P-4000 unless you need the extra storage space, as there aren't any other significant improvements. Also the P-4000 is significantly more expensive than the P-2000, so it is still worth shopping around for the older model if you don't require 80Gb of space. For owners of compatible cameras who don't already have a similar device, the Epson P-4000 is simply one of the best portable storage solutions available today.
