There are plenty of style-orientated digital compacts out there, so Nikon has its work cut out in trying to make an impact, especially as, slightly awkward to control controller aside, everything about the solid-feel, metal build Coolpix S700 is as youd expect to find it, with little to actually distinguish it from the crowd. On a positive note, the lack of extra gimmicks at least means that the S700 is easy to use, Nikons on-screen menus are clean and clear and the S700s functions clearly designated, plus even if the screen does suffer in bright light, you can take a snapshot with the minimum of fuss which is, along with the fact that this camera looks outwardly stunning in truth all its target mass market audience are going to be buying it for. The only stumbling points to reaching said audience appear to be that you can only find the Coolpix S700 in-store at upmarket department store John Lewis in the UK (which has the silver version we tested for a slightly pricey 269) or tax free branches of Dixons (which boast the black). That said, a quick internet search found prices as low as 218, which could help sway some wavering voters in the direction of the Nikon Coolpix S700.
