The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX37 is a small and stylish point-and-shoot compact which doesn't truly bring that much of note aside from the impressive 25mm-125mm 5x zoom lens to the party. The suspicion is that the FX37 is plugging a gap in the range rather than striving for individual excellence. Issues with noise at ISO 400 and faster and an overall softness to images detract somewhat from the overall out-of-the-camera image quality, although 5 minutes in Photoshop or a similar application is enough to fix most of the issues. To focus momentarily on the positives, the Panasonic FX37 is reasonably well built, has a handy 720p HD video mode, and if you shop around it can be found for a much more enticing price than the official RRP. But there's little else to distinguish this model from a host of other slender build contenders, save for the user-friendly fact that if you leave the camera in Intelligent Auto mode, in theory the only other switch or option you'll ever need to touch is the slider for reviewing images. While that's good news for Granny, it's not quite enough however to save it from a score that indicates a point-and-shoot camera that doesn't truly stand out from the crowd. Ultimately the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX37 comes Recommended as a simple-to-use, family-friendly point-and-shoot that delivers fairly good results at a fairly attractive street price.
