Canon SX100 IS Review

Canon SX100 ISDigiCamReview have reviewed the Canon SX100 IS, the first camera in the new SX series, offering a 10x zoom, image stabilized lens and 8 megapixel resolution.

“Image quality is very good - with excellent colour, with high levels of saturation, contrast and detail. The only image problems were higher than average noise when the ISO setting is raised above ISO200, and higher than average purple fringing. There was also some red eye in group photos, but overall red-eye was generally quite low. The camera did a good job focusing even in low light thanks to the focus assist lamp, and had a high success rate due to the built in optical image stabilisation. There was some noticable vignetting (darkened corners) when the zoom was fully extended, but normally there was no vignetting, nor did I notice barrel or pincushion distortion.”

Canon SX100 ISTrustedReviews have reviewed the new Canon Powershot SX100, the first camera in the new SX series, offering a 10x zoom, image stabilized lens and 8 megapixel resolution.

“The SX100 also score high marks for its overall picture quality, although it isn’t entirely problem-free. The lens is extremely good, providing almost no barrel distortion at wide angle and only a tiny amount of pincushion distortion at telephoto. The sharpness and level of fine detail is excellent in the centre of the frame, bit it does drop off somewhat towards the edges, with some noticeable chromatic aberration. Colour and exposure are also excellent, and the dynamic range of the 1/2.5-inch CCD is surprisingly good, providing both highlight and shadow detail on high-contrast shots. The only real problem is image noise, which is present in all shots over 100 ISO.”

Canon Powershot SX100 Review at DigitalCameraInfo

Canon SX100 ISDigitalCameraInfo have reviewed the new Canon SX100, the first camera in the new SX series, offering a 10x zoom, image stabilized lens and 8 megapixel resolution.

“At an introductory price of $299, the Canon PowerShot SX100 IS is a strong contender in the 10x optical zoom market. When compared to the entire point-and-shoot market, the PowerShot SX100 is a bit on the expensive side, since some cameras can be found for around $100. On the other hand, when compared to other 10x cameras with optical image stabilization, the SX100 IS is a bargain. Most other cameras in this class are priced at $350 or more. With solid image performance and face detection, the Canon SX100 IS is an admirable choice.”

Canon SX100 ISPhotoReview have reviewed the new Canon SX100, the first camera in the new SX series, offering a 10x zoom, image stabilized lens and 8 megapixel resolution.

“Pictures taken with the test camera were sharp but rather contrasty. Exposures were pitched to record highlight detail, leaving shadows to block up. Autofocusing was fast and accurate in bright conditions – and almost as good in low light. The image stabilisation system proved effective in dim lighting; we estimate it provided a 2-3 stop advantage at long zoom settings.”

Canon SX100 ISCNET have reviewed the new Canon SX100, the first camera in the new SX series, offering a 10x zoom, image stabilized lens and 8 megapixel resolution.

“What the camera sacrifices in speed, however, it makes up for in photo quality. Perhaps it’s just the result of an extra few months of tweaking since the S5 shipped, but the SX100’s photo quality, especially at higher ISO sensitivity settings, clearly improves upon its siblings. At ISO 800, for example, there’s far less of a mottled look in the SX100’s shots, but with no increased loss of detail. The new lens has better distortion characteristics—less distortion and more symmetry—and photos look sharp without looking oversharpened.”
