Photokina 2008Welcome to PhotographyBLOG's in-depth Photokina 2008 Report. Held every two years, the Photokina Show takes place in Cologne, Germany and runs from 23rd - 28th September. Photokina is an international trade fair for the entire photographic and imaging and for both consumers and professionals. This photo show covers everything from image creation and storage to editing, transmission and output. All of the major photography manufacturers will unveil their new product line-ups for 2008 and beyond at Photokina 2008. Just like 2 years ago, PhotographyBLOG will cover Photokina live from the show floor. There are a lot of announcements both in the weeks leading up to Photokina and during the show itself, all of which will be included in our Photokina 2008 Report. Leica S2 Canon EOS 5D Mark II Sony DSLR-A900
Leica S2 - The Leica S2 is a completely new digital SLR camera system, offering a 37 megapixel, 30x45mm sensor that's 56% larger than full size 35mm. The S2's' bespoke Kodak CCD sensor has enabled the Leica designers to produce the smallest camera in its class, sitting between the Canon EOS 5D and 1Ds Mk III DSLRs in size. Canon EOS 5D Mark II - The 21.1 megapixel EOS 5D Mark II is Canon�s first DSLR camera to offer High Definition video capability. The new Canon 5D Mark II has a newly designed Canon CMOS sensor with ISO sensitivity up to 25600, new DIGIC 4 processor, 3.0� Clear View LCD with VGA resolution, and 3.9 frames per second continuous shooting. Sony DSLR-A900 - The Sony DSLR-A900 is a new 24.6 megapixel, 35mm full-frame digital SLR camera with a body-integrated image stabilization system and dual BIONZ processing engines. The A900 offers a bright, clear optical viewfinder with 100% field of view coverage, high-speed continuous shooting of 24.6 megapixel images at five frames per second and a 3-inch Xtra Fine LCD screen with 921,000 dots.
     
Micro Four Thirds Panasonic Lumix DMC-G1 Nikon D90
Micro Four Thirds - Olympus and Panasonic have jointly developed the "Micro Four Thirds System standard", producing significantly lighter and more compact cameras. The Micro Four Thirds sensor will remain the same size (18x13.5mm) as the current Four Thirds standard, but the optical viewfinder and mirror box are completely removed so that a Micro Four Thirds camera is 50% thinner, with smaller lenses too. Panasonic Lumix DMC-G1 - The Panasonic Lumix DMC-G1 is the World's first Micro Four Thirds camera. Using a mirror-less structure and an electronic viewfinder instead of a conventional optical viewfinder, the Panasonic G1 still has a 12.1-megapixel Live MOS, Four Thirds sensor, but is much smaller than a regular DSLR camera. Nikon D90 - The Nikon D90 is the world�s first DSLR camera that shoots High Definition video. Replacing the D80 model, the new 12.3 megapixel Nikon D90 can shoot 1280x720 pixel, 720p video at 24fps with mono-sound for up to 5 minutes. The D90 also offers advanced features such as Live View, Scene Recognition, Active D-Lighting, Picture Control and an ISO sensitivity range of 100-6400.
     
Canon EOS 50D Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX3 Canon PowerShot G10
Canon EOS 50D - The Canon 50D has a 15.1 megapixel CMOS sensor, extensive ISO range of 100-12800, continuous shooting speed of 6.3 frames per second, DIGIC 4 image processor, improved Integrated Cleaning System, 9-point AF, 14-bit image processing, a new Live View mode with Face Detection, and a 3.0� Clear View VGA LCD. Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX3 - New compact digital camera offering what Panasonic claim is �the highest image quality in compact camera history�. The Panasonic LX3 features a 2.5x, 24-60mm wide-angle lens with a bright maximum aperture of F/2.0 at the 24mm setting, and 10.1 megapixel, 1/1.63-inch CCD developed specially for the new model.

Canon PowerShot G10 - The Canon PowerShot G10 features a 14.7 megapixel sensor and 5x, 28-140mm zoom. Successor to the G9, the Canon G10 also offers a large 3.0� PureColor LCD screen with 461k dots, DIGIC 4 image processor, Canon�s new i-Contrast system which increases the dynamic range, and Servo AF mode to continually adjust focus on a moving subject.

Pentax and Samsung Partnership Not Perfect
