PMA 2004 LogoThe Photo Marketing Association (PMA) Annual Convention and Trade Show takes place in Orlando, Florida USA and runs from 20th-23rd February 2005. This is the world's largest annual photo imaging trade show, with more than 30,000 attendees from nearly 100 countries last year. More than 83% of exhibitors responding to the PMA survey plan to launch a new product or service at PMA 2005, so expect a lot of announcements to be made in the weeks leading up to the show. So to help you keep track of everything that's going on, this page will contain links to all of the latest product announcements.

End of Show Report

  • PMA 2005 Show Report
The PMA Show 2005 was held last week in Orlando, Florida. PhotographyBLOG was there for an entire week to cover the show, attend various press events and go on the rides at the Universal Studios “Islands of Adventure” theme park (I can’t work all the time you know…). All in all the Show was a quiet, understated affair compared to previous years, with the general concensus being this was a year of consolidation in the industry, rather than innovation. There were still a lot of new products introduced, however, so here is my personal roundup of the hits, misses and maybes.

Booth by Booth

You don't even need to be at PMA to see all the new products! Let me be your guide as I visit the booths of all the major manufacturers and show you what they have to offer for the coming year.

  • Canon
Canon had the biggest stand and the biggest new range of products at PMA 2005 last week in Orlando, Florida. As promised here are some product shots from Canon’s stand.
  • Fujifilm
Fujifilm had a massive stand at PMA near the main entrance, almost as big as Canon's, although a large majority of the space was taken up by the photo-finishing sections of the company, rather than the camera side. New digital camera models included the Fujifilm FinePix F10 Zoom, Fujifilm FinePix Z1 Zoom and the Fujifilm Finepix S3 Pro digital SLR.
  • Kodak
Kodak occupied a large area at PMA in the centre of the show floor, with a large majority of the space taken up by the photo-finishing sections of the company, rather than the camera side. New digital camera models included the new Z series cameras the Kodak Easyshare Z7590and Kodak EasyShare Z730, and the more basic Kodak EasyShare CS340 and Kodak EasyShare CS300 models.
  • Casio
Casio’s presence at PMA 2005 was quite large, but situated quite a long way from the centre of the show where the other major camera manufacturers were located. New digital camera models included the Casio Exilim Pro EX-P505, Casio Exilim Zoom EX-Z750 and Casio Exilim Zoom EX-Z57.

Behind the Scenes

This is my take on a selection of the new products on show at PMA, giving you a unique point of view and trying to get past all the marketing speak.

  • Tamron 18-200mm Lens Sample Shots @ PMA 2005
I visited the Tamron stand today and took a few shots with the new Tamron 18-200mm digital SLR lens that has just been unveiled at PMA 2005.
  • Tamron 11-18mm Di Lens Sample Shots @ PMA 2005
I visited the Tamron stand today and took a few shots with the new Tamron 11-18mm digital SLR lens that has just been announced.
  • Sigma 10-20mm Lens @ PMA 2005
The Sigma 10-20mm F4-5.6 EX DC HSM lens which was first announced a week ago is on show here at PMA 2005. I got the chance to have a brief try of the lens on my Canon EOS 10D during an interview with Sigma today.
  • Canon Digital Rebel XT @ PMA 2005
The Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT is undoubtedly the star of PMA 2005 show (called the Canon EOS 350D in Europe). An 8 megapixel digital SLR with the same DIGIC II image processor found in Canon's professional series D-SLR cameras, the Digital Rebel XT is an amazing upgrade of the already very popular Canon Digital Rebel.
  • Samsung's Mysterious Concept Camera @ PMA 2005
As well as showing their new digicam lineup for 2005 (which looks very impressive), Samsung were also displaying a large picture of an intriguing concept camera.
  • Sony DSC-H1
The Sony DSC-H1 is the star of the PMA Show as far as Sony is concerned. The DSC-H1 is the company’s first entry into the ultra-zoom market, with a 12x optical zoom lens equivalent to 36-432 millimeters.
  • Fujifilm FinePix Z1 Zoom
The Fujifilm FinePix Z1 Zoom surprised me by being lot smaller than I’d imagined - it’s considerably smaller than a comparable camera.
  • HP Photosmart 8750
HP are really promoting their new HP Photosmart printer, the the 8750, at PMA 2005. At a lunchtime conference today, HP presented their overall package for the 8750 and the higher-end DesignJet 90 via 3 key speakers.
  • Kodak Easyshare Z730
This is the second Z-series Kodak that is being unveiled at PMA 2005, the Kodak Easyshare Z730. The Z730 is a 5 megapixel digital camera with 4x optical zoom and will cost US$349.95.
  • Kodak Easyshare Z7590
The Kodak Easyshare Z7590 was announced a couple of days ago. It’s identical to the older DX590 except for a couple of features. Here it is in the flesh showing the new histogram.
  • Sanyo MM-5600 Multimedia Phone
The Sanyo MM-5600 multimedia phone is the USA’s first 1 megapixel cameraphone and was at the forefront of the Sanyo stand during this afternoon’s Sneak Peek PMA event.
  • Minox Mobi DV
Minox were previewing their series of minature replica cameras - amongst them was the MINOX Mobi DV, a digital camera, a MP3 player and a dictating device all in one.
  • Tamron 11-22mm Di Lens
Tamron were showing their 11-22mm lens this afternoon, which was first shown at Photokina in August last year. The SP AF11-22mm F/4.5-5.6 Di-II LD Aspherical (IF), an ultra wideangle zoom lens, is Tamron’s first lens designed for exclusive use with digital SLR cameras.
