Just bought this camera and when you zoom into a photo in playback mode, it will zoom straight to x3.0 which I find really annoying. Want to be able to zoom in gradually - x1.2, x1.4 etc. (you can do this when zooming back out)
Do you think there may be a fault with the camera or is that just how it’s been designed?

I take pictures of amateur rocket tests and I needed a camera that took good video but was expendable in case something goes wrong. I bought a factory refurb of this camera and am completely delighted with it. I can’t tell the difference between the refurb and a new one so I saved over $50. The 16MP sensor lets me blow up images to an amazing degree and the 720p video mode takes remarkably good movies rivaling a mid range dedicated camcorder. I recommend this camera to the casual user or to anyone that wants to take pix in potentially hazardous conditions where the loss of the camera would not be a major setback.
