IQ is real bad…a pin hole camera makes sharper pics, I see no point to test cameras like these ones…

I find that these types of cameras work fine in the beginning. Use them twice and see what happens…

I used the s5200 for 4 days….the next time I turned it on, the lens would not extend.  When the lens finally extended, it would not auto focus so I tried to zoom and the camera would turn itself off and give me a Lens Error.  I returned the camera for another, but I am still afraid it will happen again since I read some reviews of the exact same thing happening to others who own this camera. It takes good pics but if it only last a few days or weeks what good is it?

I bought this camera as a Mother’s Day special. Then during a trip to Cancun in early July all of a sudden I got the exact same lens error as stated y the previous person on this thread. I was unable to use the camera for the rest of our vacation. Very upset! Electronics Express exchanged the camera with no questions asked. Now a month later the exact same problem has occurred with the replacement camera. I was unable to take any pictures of our weekend getaway.  Not one single picture! This time around I will not be satisfied with an exchange. I’m hoping they’ll give me store credit towards a different camera. Prior to this camera I had a Sony Cyber-Shot for almost six years and am regretting not sticking with Sony when it came time to replace/upgrade.

I just read comment #12 on this thread. My replacement camera has not had this problem again, yet, but I cringe every time I take it on a trip just waiting for it to happen.  Such a disappointment and hate the anxiety of wondering if I will have pictures from my current trip.  Again, it takes beautiful pictures but this “lens error” issue seems to pop up for no reason and also seems to run rapid with this model of camera.  I think Nikon needs to refund our money, replace this camera with a better one or fix the issue instead of saying there is not a problem. Growing weary and just waiting for the other shoe to drop.

Following up on comment #12. Took the Nikon Coolpix S5200 back to Electronic’s Express and they credited the amount paid towards the purchase of another camera. This time I went running back to Sony and got a Cybershot DSC-WX80. The sale price was $20 more than what I paid for the Nikon but with Tax Free Sales going on the total out of pocket cost was about $8. Very happy Electronics Express customer. Very disappointed Nikon customer

bought the camera, unpacked and inserted memory card and battery, charged it for 3 hours—then got error message “lens error”
now i’m on trip with no access to retailer to exchange and camera is no good.
Nikon needs to have quality control on produces they ship before they ship them
last Nikon product I will buy
NOT RECOMMENDED

bought this camera for a friend’s birthday in June, camera was great until yesterday when she got the “lens error” message and the lens will not open; I expected more from Nikon; glad I purchased an extended warranty, however, think I’ll return it and get another brand

Got this in October for my birthday.  Have always had Nikon Coolpix cameras and love them.  Today, in the middle of taking pictures to post on facebook, it suddenly stopped, with no warning or damage.  Got the dreaded “lens error” after the camera tries to focus.  You can see a blurry picture until it finally shuts off with the Lens error.  So disappointed and inconvenienced.

I’m having the same problem with the lens error as any others. Unfortunately, the receipt is missing, so apparently my one year warranty is void.

I just got Nikon S5200 for Christmas.  After charging battery for suggested time, then some, it wouldn’t turn on after many attempts.  Returning & researching another product.

DON’T BUY THIS CAMERA!!!
I have a Coolpix P90, a little bulky, so I wanted one that I can stick in my pocket and I relied on the Nikon reputation for Quality:WRONG!
Got a Coolpix S5200,new with a Nikon manufactures warranty.I opened the box, charged the battery as per instructions, turned it on and that was all she did. It came on only one time and never did again. So I mailed it in to the Nikon Service location on Wilshire Blvd.in L.A and received a letter that this factory discrepancy is not covered under the WARRANTY.CAN YOU BELIEVE THIS?? The repair was $109.00. What a disappointment in Nikon’s reputation, next time anything else but a Nikon product.

new in Sept. 13.  Worked fine(Jan 14) till first re-charge of battery. Camera would not turn on after battery charged. Camera on way back to Nikon.  Shouda bought a Canon. Was surprised when I checked that this Nikon (Japanese) camera was actually made in China.

I also bought the Nikon S5200.  It worked the first time I turned it on…but I took video and the battery drained within just a few minutes.  Took it home to recharge.  Recharged it…and it never turned on again.  Can’t get it on, can’t even get my computer to recognize it when i plug it in to USB port…its like it doesn’t exist.  The camera blinks green when I plug it in to the computer or the wall, but it won’t turn on…and after it has stopped blinking green, again, it won’t turn on.  I don’t have a receipt so I am out 170 bucks as I bought mine when they first came out a year ago.  Would not recommend.
