Introduction

Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX1

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX1 is an 8 megapixel digital camera with a difference - it's the first compact digicam to feature a 16:9 ratio CCD sensor, perfect for viewing on your widescreen TV or just for a more panoramic effect. The DMC-LX1 also offers more conventional 3:2 and 4:3 ratio images via a switch on the lens barrel, achieving these sizes by removing 1 megapixel and 2 megapixels respectively. In addition to the unique widescreen image format, the Panasonic DMC-LX1 has a wealth of options that will appeal to the more serious photographer. A 4x optical zoom lens from Leica which starts at a wide-angle 28mm, a large 2.5 inch LCD screen, optical image stabilizer, full range of manual exposure controls, compact all-metal body and RAW, TIFF and JPEG image formats are all on offer. These features do come at a price, with the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX1 costing almost as much as an entry-level digital SLR with kit lens, so does the DMC-LX1 have what it takes to persuade you (and me) that it is the perfect, take-anywhere compact camera? Read on to find out...
