Protect Your Client’s Images

A memory card carries more than just your photos, it carries your reputation. Your client operates under a tight deadline and relies on you to deliver their images intact and on time. Those images represent the efforts of many people. There are no do-overs in this industry, and you can’t afford for a failed card to wipe out an entire shoot. Remember this when selecting a storage device.

Not all memory cards are created equal. Choose a reliable card with enough durability to survive a fall or getting splashed by coffee. I recommend SanDisk Extreme® Pro™ cards because they will keep your client’s images safe for a long time even under intense conditions. Remember, ruggedness doesn’t matter if you lose the card, so hang onto it.

Once a shoot is over and your card is loaded with images, immediately back up your work. You should also label the card and file it in a safe place. When you are ready to use the card again, format it inside the camera. This deletes all images and recreates the file system to improve the card’s overall performance.

I retire cards after I’ve used them for more than a year and a half. They are still fine for everyday use, but I like to enter a shoot knowing that my equipment is fresh and optimized for the latest camera equipment.
