Bob Atkins has reviewed both the Canon SELPHY CP-510 and CP-710 compact photo printers.
“The CP-710 has all the functions of the CP-510, but in addition also allows printing directly from a memory card and has a 1.5” color LCD screen on which the images are displayed. Microdrives, CF cards, SD cards, Memory Sticks, Memory Stick Pros, Multimedia cards and Magic Gate Memory Stick Duos are directly supported. Other cards can be used via adapters. The usual array of functions is available. You can print one image, all images, images as defined in the camera via DPOF (digital print order format), plus you can select bordered or borderless printing and you can crop using the controls on the printer and the printer LCD screen.”

PCMagazine have taken a look at the Canon MP500 all-in-one printer, which incorporates Canon’s new ChromaLife100 system, 1 picolitre droplets and 96002 x 2400 dpi prinring resolution.
“The Canon Pixma MP500 Photo All-In-One ($199.99 direct), built around the same engine as the Editors’ Choice Canon Pixma iP4200 Photo Printer, offers both more and less than you might expect for the price. Some shortcomings, such as a lack of fax support and the absence of an automatic document feeder (ADF) could limit the AIO’s usefulness depending on your needs. But unexpected pluses like excellent paper handling that includes duplexing compensate, so this an excellent choice for a home or home office if faxing and high volume input aren’t concerns”

PCMagazine have reviewed the Epson Stylus Photo RX700 all-in-one printer, a six colour model that can print on CDs and DVDs.
“Although the RX700 offers much to like, it’s simply not as good a value as the 3310, which costs essentially the same, has similar performance, offers slightly better photo quality, and ups the ante on features, with a built-in fax modem, Ethernet connection, and wireless networking. But if you want the ability to print labels directly on discs, it’s currently the only AIO game in town.”

New system saves users upwards of 70% on ink costs - Features new version of renowned Lyson Cave Paint™ pigment ink set
ELK GROVE VILLAGE, IL (November 15, 2005) — Lyson, Inc., a leading provider of inks, media, and related products to the printing, photography, graphic arts, and other allied industries, is introducing a bulk ink feed system and bulk ink for Epson’s popular Stylus Photo R1800 inkjet printer.
Unlike most bulk feed systems, which use modified generic bottles and foam-filled standard ink cartridges, the Lyson bulk feed system for the Epson R1800 uses components specifically designed for use in continuous ink supply systems. The space-saving modular ink reservoirs can be topped up while printing, and sealed when not in use to prolong ink life. The proprietary bulk ink feed cartridges feature built-in pressure dampers to automatically regulate ink flow, filters to protect the print head, and uses no foam rubber (which can deteriorate and lead to clogging during use). Even the ink tubing used is laboratory standard to reduce thickening of ink over time.

Photographic Magazine have tested the HP Photosmart 8250 photo printer, which features six individual ink cartridges and can print photos in just 14 seconds.
“he Photosmart 8250 did an excellent job with everything I threw at it. Portraits displayed good skin tones and landscapes had rich vibrant colors. The blues in particular were richer than most other printers I’ve used. Black and white prints didn’t show the same beautiful neutral tones that are possible with the Photosmart 8750, but considering there is only one shade of black that’s not surprising. Printing in gray scale with the HP driver delivered acceptable results. “

TrustedReviews have just reviewed the Lexmark P315 portable photo printer.
“Print quality was not great, using the fresh, type 33 cartridge supplied with the printer. Colours looked washed out and there was a noticeable lack of red. We tried cleaning the heads a few times, but with little improvement – we could see breaks in the stripes of cyan and magenta. Swapping for a new type 35 cartridge, again supplied by Lexmark, improved things, but the colours were still not as vivid as from, for example, an HP Photosmart 375.”

DIWA member Steves Digicams has published a review of the new Canon PIXMA iP5200 printer.
“The iP5200 is another of Canon’s 5-color printers that leaves me wondering why I own and use the 8-color i9900. When I see just how good the photo prints look when using only the three primary colors (cyan, magenta and yellow), I don’t know why I need those other ink colors, or the added expense. With the 1-picoliter size ink droplets the prints are virtually grainless. I can only visually see imperfections after scanning a print at 600dpi and then zooming in really close. Holding a 4×6” print in my hand and getting it as close as possible, I can see nothing to complain about at all. For the average to the hypercritical user I am sure that this printer will satisfy your photo printing as well as your everyday printing needs. The color is simply brilliant, the prints last and you’ll certainly not be waiting for this printer to do its job.”

DIWA member Steves Digicams have published the first online review of the Kodak Easyshare Photo Printer 500.
“I had no problems using the printer with my Sony VAIO laptop with its builtin Bluetooth wireless connectivity and the Kodak Easyshare Software or connected directly with the USB cable. The jury is still out as to whether the Wi-Fi capabilities are all that useful or not. It’s only useable within a hundred feet or so and it’s just as easy to remove the card or plug in a cable to make prints. Maybe in the future when all digicams have Wi-Fi builtin as a standard feature, right now it’s really nothing more than a gimmick that will cost you another $100 to use. And this comes from a self-confessed “gadget freak” with a wireless router and laptop, a cellphone and a van with Onstar.”

BIOS have published their review of the new Epson Stylus DX4800 printer.
“The Stylus DX4800 is aimed at the budget-minded home user with light-duty needs. The price is reasonable and the output quality good, but its cartridges print relatively few pages, and there’s no fax feature or automatic document feeder (ADF) for copying or scanning multi-page documents. In fact, you don’t even get a built-in LCD for previewing photos on your digital camera or memory card. The unit’s built quality is high and the bundled software makes light work of using all of its features, but Epson really needs to get a handle on what is expected from a modern all-in-one printer.”

ByteSector have reviewed the HP Photosmart 475 compact photo printer, which can store up to a thousand photos internally on an internal hard drive, eliminating the need to store images on a PC or camera.
“The quality of the prints was variable, but mostly excellent. The colours were vibrant, the edges crisp, perfectly aligned, and felt like a real picture when you examined it closely. The printer ran into trouble when dealing with some very bright objects and with large amounts of foliage or texture outside of the cameras focus (some of this is attributable to the camera used). It is also very important to realign the cartridge whenever you move the printer (this is standard for all inkjet printers) to maintain the acuity of the pictures.”

DIWA member Steves Digicams have reviewed the HP Photosmart 475 compact photo printer, which can store up to a thousand photos internally on an internal hard drive, eliminating the need to store images on a PC or camera.
“HP integrated their Real Life Technology into the printer, it automatically detects and removes most instances of red-eye in people photographs. With today’s tiny cameras and the flash being positioned way too close to the lens, red-eye is a major problem. Well, problem solved! And most indoor flash pictures have your friends or family members nicely illuminated but the rest of the room is often very dark. HP’s Adaptive Lighting can help brighten up the backgrounds and make pictures look more detailed.”

DIWA member Steves Digicams have published their review of the new HP Photosmart 385 compact photo printer.
“The print quality is excellent and the equal of those made conventionally at your local camera store. The new hp95, hp97 and hp100 print cartridges feature Vivera Inks to resist fading and keep prints looking sharp and colorful for up to 82 years (according to testing by Wilhelm Research.) Borderless prints can be made on HP 4x6” (true size) photo paper or the older HP 4x6” glossy photo paper that has a 1/2-inch tear-off tab on the trailing end. The per-print cost can be as low as $0.24 when you purchase the HP Custom 95 Series Photo Value Pack which includes 200 sheets of 4x6” paper and a HP95 color cartridge.”

BIOS have reviewed the Lexmark P450, a 4x6 inch photo printer with a unique feature, a built-in CD burner.
“Lexmark’s P450 is the first-ever inkjet photo printer with a built-in CD burner. The innovative P450 makes it easy to print 6x4-inch images directly from a memory card, Bluetooth-enable handheld device, digital camera (PictBridge), CD-ROM, or computer. You can even burn images from a memory card directly to a CD-R without your computer, a neat feature for less technical users who don’t want to get involved with the complexities and cost of CD authoring. The downside is that the P450’s print quality is disappointing, it’s slow, and you’re paying a premium price for the built-in CD recorder. There are better and cheaper alternatives if you’re not bothered about being able to burn images to a disc without your computer.”
