JP Distribution has announced the imminent availability of two new Black Rapid products in the UK market. The Black Rapid RS DR-2 is a slim version of the DR-1 double strap, while the RS-W1B is a camera strap designed specifically for women. The new products are available from December for £130 and £65, respectively.

Ambarella has announced the availability of a complete 3D camera solution that includes the company’s new 3D video pre-processor. The S3D pre-processor works with Ambarella’s A5s and A7 camera systems on chip (SoCs) to enable full HD 1080p 3D video recording and high-resolution 3D photography. It connects to two standard CMOS image sensors and processes the image data to create a single video stream for the A5s or A7 camera SoCs. It also supports the display of 3D video and still images on the camera’s 3D LCD display. The S3D and full 3D camera reference design kit with A7 or A5s SDK are available to camera manufacturers immediately

Transcend has announced the addition of 64GB models to its Ultra Speed series USB flash drives. Taking full advantage of the dual-channel technology, Transcend’s Ultra Speed series USB flash drives deliver read speeds of up to 32MB/s and write speeds of up to 18 MB/s. Cameras Underwater has launched a redesigned version of its Aquatica underwater housing for the Nikon D3 series. This newer housing will accept the latest Nikon D3S version as well as all Nikon D3 and D3X models. Extra controls for the D3S’ video features have been included and larger, more tactile control knobs added for better feel in cold water.  In addition, the new housing back can be retrofitted onto existing D3 housings, extending their life span. Cameras Underwater has announced a new underwater housing for the Sony NEX-5 compact system camera. Cisco today announced a new accessory programme for Flip Video called “Designed for Flip”. New accesories will include a range of products initially including battery chargers, a pocket projector, and waterproof cases. A key component of the Designed for Flip initiative is a new Flip Video feature called FlipPort. The FlipPort is a uniquely developed connector found on the bottom of the new Flip UltraHD—announced last month—that will become a standard feature on future generations of Flip Videos. The FlipPort will allow a range of specialised accessories to easily plug right in to Flip video cameras. The Designed for Flip line will debut several products starting today and then continue to roll out more accessories in the New Year and beyond.

Kodak has announced a brand new 29-megapixel image sensor, billed as the highest resolution CCD based on Interline Transfer technology. With a pixel pitch of 5.5 microns, the Kodak KAI-29050 “sets a new benchmark for high-resolution, low noise image capture for applied imaging markets”, according to Kodak. Supporting up to 4 frames per second (fps), the new sensor has been “designed in a 35mm optical format”, which in our understanding means its dimensions are close to that of the 36x24mm frame size used in most 35mm film cameras. The Kodak KAI-29050 will be on display at the Vision 2010 Trade Show, which opens on 9th November in Stuttgart, Germany; and mass production is scheduled for mid-2011.

The Marumi Ring Flash is now available in the UK with a Sony fit. Designed for close up, macro, medical, scientific and forensic photography, the device consists of a Main Control Unit which fits directly onto the camera hot shoe and a separate Ring Flash Unit which connects to the lens filter thread. The standard mount is 52mm and step up rings to 55mm, 58mm, 62mm and 67mm are included. The unit incorporates direct hot shoe synchronisation and has a flash duration of 1/7000th second and a recycling time of 4-6 seconds. Hama is introducing three remote shutter releases – a cable version, a timer version and a wireless version – for digital cameras. The remote shutter release itself is the base to which a specific connection cable is attached, which is available separately for all popular camera modules with a remote control interface. If the camera is ever replaced, or if several models are in use, only the cable has to be swapped. The wireless version consists of a transmitter (operated by the photographer) and a receiver with a specific connection cable for the camera. The base unit of the simple wired remote release costs €14.99, while those of the timer and wireless versions are priced at €59.00 each. The adapter cables are €7.99-9.99 depending on camera brand and model.
