The LockPort Pocket is a new product developed to help avoid damaging your Blackmagic Pocket micro HDMI camera port. Easily fitting every tripod head, baseplate, sliding plate and support, the LockPort Pockett safely secures a 90° REAR micro to full-size HDMI adapter, protecting the expensive-to-repair micro HDMI port on your camera. The HDMI adapter has gold plated contacts and the full-size female output allows you to use stronger standard HDMI cables. Available from the end of this month, the LockPort Pocket sells for €99.00. 

JP Distribution has launched a number of new Westcott products in the United Kingdom. These include the uLite continuous lights, which provide up to 500 W of power and come with a 26-inch octagonal softbox that softens the light and produces magnificent catchlights. GoPro has announced a collection of accessories and software. GoPro HERO3+ and HERO3 users will benefit from a number of new housing and mount options including a matte-finish housing, compact frame and versatile flex mount. The stealth Blackout Housing ($49.99) features a non-reflective black matte finish and LCD concealment stickers. Two additional accessories,Gooseneck and The Frame, are designed for greater versatility in shooting. Gooseneck ($19.99) boasts a seven-link flex neck and quick-release base plate for capturing hard to reach shots around corners or underneath objects, while the reengineered Frame ($39.99) is the smallest, lightest way to mount the HERO3+ and HERO3 camera. The free GoPro App, which allows users to control all camera functions remotely, view photos, playback videos and share content via email, text and social platforms, has been updated to a new version to deliver wireless camera software updates to the HERO3+. Improvements to camera software unlock a number of new modes to give HERO3+ Black users greater control of capture settings, including new SuperView modes at 1080/60 and 1080/50, as well as new Auto Low Light modes that support higher frame rates.

The Samsung U28D590D is an affordable 28-inch Ultra HD display with a resolution of 3840x2160 pixels. Launching on 21st April, the Samsung U28D590D has a  GTG response time of 1ms, static contrast ratio of 1000:1 and maximum brightness of 370cd/m². The spec sheet reveals that it has a TN panel (hence the relatively affordable price tag), which "supports" 1 billion colours - although it's not clear whether this means that it's a true 10-bit panel or that the monitor has a 10-bit internal LUT. The Samsung U28D590D has a DisplayPort and two HDMI 1.4 connectors but no DVI interface. Samsung's Picture-by-Picture feature enables you to connect two different PCs to the display and see the desktops of both simultaneously on one screen that's divided into two. The monitor also includes UHD up-scaling technology that converts low-resolution content to Ultra HD. Amazon is currently taking pre-orders for the Samsung U28D590D at $845.69.

Nest has released several additions to its popular Explorer range of bags, including a collection of stylish shoulder and toploading bags. There are two new shoulder bags in this collection, compact and designed to accommodate CSCs together with essential photographic accessories. Specifically, the EX25 the smaller of the two, will fit a camera plus compact zoom lens attached and an additional telephoto lens. The larger volume EX50 will fit a CSC with lens attached and a further one or two lenses and a e-reader / tablet. Alternatively the EX50 is large enough to accommodate a DSLR with compact lens attached and an additional lens or flash. The new toploaders are available in two forms, the EX5 and EX10. The EX10 is the largest case designed to fit a large DSLR (with compact or telephoto zoom lens attached) while the EX5 will accommodate a small DSLR (with compact lens attached) or a CSC (with compact lens attached). Prices start from £24.99.

Joby has launched a new accessory for photographers using off-camera flashes. "We often see awkward setups with off-camera flashes, such as people holding their flash in one hand while holding their camera with the other, or people wrestling with a light stand or pole," said Michael Jue, director of product design at Joby. The new Flash Clamp & Locking Arm innovates with a clamp that lets users quickly secure their wireless flash to any surface less than two inches in width. The locking arm also has two fully articulating ball joints that position the flash at any angle needed while providing a long-lasting hold. The Joby Flash Clamp & Locking Arm retails for $39.95.

Transcend have released a range of SDXC/SDHC UHS-I cards featuring full support for the Ultra High Speed Class 3 (U3) specification. Recently released by the SD Association, the Ultra High Speed Class 3 specification guarantees a minimum constant write speed of 30MB/s to facilitate cinema-quality video recording. Transcend’s SDXC UHS-I U3 and SDXC/SDHC UHS-I U3X “Extreme” cards, however, can achieve at least double this performance with write speeds of up to 60MB/s and 85MB/s respectively. In devices that do not support the UHS-I specification, Transcend’s SDXC/SDHC UHS-I U3 cards offer constant write speeds of at least 10MB/s (SD Speed Class 10 performance). The SDXC UHS-I U3 cards (R95MB/s, W60MB/s) are available in 64GB (US$49) and 128GB (US$109) capacities, while the SDXC/SDHC UHS-I U3X cards (R95MB/s, W85MB/s) are available in 32GB (US$59) and 64GB (US$119) capacities.

Cosyspeed have launched a new range of camera bags designed specifically for CSCs. Toshiba today launched its highest-capacity external hard drive, the 5TB STOR.E Canvio Desktop External HDD. The device's built-in USB 3.0 interface and compatibility with previous generations of USB 2.0 devices significantly improves large file transfer performance and minimises waiting time for backup, the company says. Additionally, the STOR.E Canvio will enable users to better manage their data with a Drive Space Alert. The add-on feature will keep an eye on your drive and let you know when it’s getting full.

Berlin, Germany-based startup LUUV has developed a camera stabiliser for action cams and smartphones. "With LUUV you don’t have to go through the tedious process of self-balancing and adjusting your camera on the stabiliser anymore," the company says. "Simply apply the recommended setup for your device which you’ll find on our website and you’ll be set to go within a few minutes." TowerJazz and Gpixel announced today at Image Sensors 2014 the release of the world’s highest-resolution CMOS image sensor. Gpixel’s 150 megapixel full-frame CMOS image sensor (GMAX3005) will target the medical, industrial and scientific imaging markets (so no, you won't find it in the next Canon or Nikon digital SLR camera). The GMAX3005 chip is capable of running at ten frames per second at full-frame with even higher frame rates achieved in row-windowing mode. Boasting a noise level of less than 4e-, a dynamic range of 75.4dB, and over 70% quantum efficiency at 550nm wavelength. the GMAX3005 sensor is ideal for applications that require high sensitivity; and makes long exposure possible even without active cooling. These performance results place it in the category of high end industrial grade sensors matching the capabilities of the best sensors available in the market today, the companies say.

British wildlife photographer William Burrard-Lucas has released the latest results from the BeetleCam Project and announced a new version of his the remote-controlled camera buggy, BeetleCam. Will embarked on a project to get unique, close-up, ground level photographs of African wildlife back in 2009.  To achieve this, he built his first BeetleCam, a remote controlled buggy with a DSLR camera mounted on top. Now, five years after his first expedition to Tanzania, he has unveiled BeetleCam Hybrid, which combines a traditional BeetleCam base with a stabilised camera gimbal, which allows the camera to stay perfectly level, even if the BeetleCam is moving over uneven surfaces. CASE, a new product developed by Cheering Tech, allows users to wirelessly control their Canon and Nikon digital SLR cameras from their Android and iOS devices. Offering remote live view, touch focus, full control over camera settings, time-lapse photography and wireless file transfer; the new CASE is a 2"x2" device that slots into your camera's hot-shoe. Weighing in at 50g, CASE will retail for $99 but those who support Cheering Tech's fundraising campaign on IndieGoGo can get hold of the device for $79.

Kenro has expanded its digital photo frame range with three new products. The new additions are the DF71, DF7040 and DF1580 models from Braun Photo Technik. The stylish black matte DF71 has a high quality 7"digital TFT LED screen with LED backlight technology and a resolution of 480x234 pixels. The DF7040 has a similarly sized display with a resolution of 800x600 pixels. The Braun DF1580 has a 15" LCD screen with 1024x768 pixels and built-in stereo speakers.
