Schilt Publishing has announced the upcoming exhibition and book launch of Michelle Sank?s photographic series The Submerged at Hotshoe Gallery, London. The Submerged was produced within Mid-Wales in the hilly and coastal areas around Aberystwyth, and portrays “a grittiness evident in the geological and architectural fabric of the place”, the publisher says. The exhibition opens tomorrow and runs until the 29th at Hotshoe Gallery, 29 – 31 Saffron Hill, London, EC1N 8SW. The book, distributed by Thames & Hudson, retails for £29.95, with a limited edition - including a print - available for £200.

Blurb has announced a new integration that enables Instagram users to quickly and easily turn their photos into professional-quality books. The Blurb integration automatically increases the resolution of Instagram camera phone images if necessary, making them suitable for a 7x7-inch square-format book. To create a book, users simply sign into their Instagram account on the Blurb website. The most popular image, based on the number of Instagram “likes”, is added to the cover. The most recent photos are then autoflowed into a book that can be previewed and purchased or edited using Blurb’s online bookmaking tool, Bookify. Pricing starts at under £7 ($11).

Five years ago, New York based writer and musician Chris Kennedy discovered the lost, never-before-published colour photo collection of popular 1950s Cleveland radio DJ Tommy Edwards, and decided to write a book on the find. The richly illustrated book, published by the Kent State University Press, is now available for purchase. The 264-page hardback includes more than 200 colour photographs from the collection that consists of over 1,700 Ektachrome slides of rock-and-roll legends, country music superstars, Hollywood celebrities and “hopeful unknowns”.

Phaidon Press have just released Steve McCurry: The Iconic Photographs, a large-format limited book that includes 165 of his most evocative and famous photographs. Born in 1950, Steve McCurry is one of the world’s leading photojournalists, who attained international recognition in the mid-1980s when he won the Robert Capa Gold Medal for his coverage of the Afghan war and the ensuing humanitarian crisis. His portrait of a young Afghan refugee girl, which appeared on the cover of National Geographic Magazine in June 1985, is widely regarded as one of the most famous photographs of the twentieth century. The new collection features this and many other iconic images by McCurry, including Boy in Mid-Flight (shown above courtesy of Phaidon Press), Flower Seller, Boy at Ganesh Chaturthi Festival, Monk at Jokhang Temple, and Dust Storm, Rajahstan, India.
