HP Photosmart R927Imaging Resource have just published their review of the 8 megapixel HP Photosmart R927 digital camera.

“Though there’s a lot to like in the form and functionality of the HP R927, image quality was not as good as should be expected from a flagship R-Series model with a 8.2-megapixel sensor. The R927’s HP-branded 3x optical zoom (f/2.8-f/5.0) covers the equivalent of a 35-105mm range, which is fairly typical among digital cameras of its class. Results were good at the wide angle, according to our test results, with minimal corner softness, though barrel distortion was surprisingly high. Distortion was not a problem at the telephoto end though. Similarly, chromatic aberration was high at wide angle but less noticeable at telephoto.”

Canon SD900CNET have published the first online review of the new 10 megapixel Canon PowerShot SD900 (also known as the Canon Digital IXUS 900 Ti).

“A solid, handy, compact camera, the Canon PowerShot SD900 nevertheless lacks some useful features offered by the similarly priced SD800 IS. Unless you absolutely need the extra pixels—for, say, cropping tightly on a portion of a photo or printing to larger than 8x10—you’re probably better off with the faster, stabilized SD800 IS.”

Kodak Easyshare V705CNET have the first online review of the 7 megapixel, dual-lens Kodak Easyshare V705 camera.

“Image quality from the V705 is decent for a camera of its class. As usual with Kodak, colors looked very accurate and were well saturated. Though while the camera is capable of capturing an admirable amount of detail, we did see some JPEG artifacts in the form of jaggy diagonal lines and curves as well as other off-color speckles along edges of high contrast.”

Fujifilm USA Press Release

Valhalla, NY, July 12, 2006 - Fujifilm continues to make top-quality picture-taking a snap for consumers with today’s introduction of the SLR-styled FinePix S6000fd, the first digital camera in Fujifilm’s line-up with the company’s new Face Detection Technology. Face Detection Technology operates exactly as its name implies, identifying up to 10 faces in a framed scene. Once faces are identified and prioritized, the 6.3 MegaPixel FinePix S6000fd adjusts its focus and exposure accordingly to ensure the sharpness and clarity of human subjects in the picture, regardless of background. And since it is hardware rather than software based, Fujifilm’s Face Detection Technology works in as little as 0.05 seconds, faster than similar in-camera detection systems currently on the market or soon to be available. Quicker operation reduces the likelihood of missed or blurry photos, frustrations often associated with digital photography.

Fujifilm F31fdThe new Fujifilm F31fd camera adds face detection and infra-red communication to the 6 months old F30 model. The Fujifilm FinePix F31fd will be available in December at a retail cost of $399.

Fujifilm USA Press Release

Valhalla, NY, September 25, 2006 -  Fuji Photo Film U.S.A., Inc., is proud to unveil the Fujifilm FinePix F31fd, the first pocketable digital camera from Fujifilm to feature the company’s new Face Detection Technology. Fujifilm’s Face Detection Technology debuted on the SLR-styled FinePix S6000fd. It has a tremendous impact on the quality of “people pictures” by ensuring that cameras like the Fujifilm F31fd will automatically focus on and expose for faces, rather than details that lead to less-than-desirable photographs. Identifying up to 10 faces in a frame, Face Detection Technology ensures photos of friends and family are crisp, clear and properly exposed for a natural feel. It has an advantage over the few other face detection systems currently on the market as the technology is built-in to the camera’s processor, enabling the Fujifilm F31fd to identify faces and optimize settings within a scant 0.05 seconds. With the Fujifilm F31fd, which is similar in style to the FinePix F30, Fujifilm adds Face Detection to the many significant breakthrough features in the award winning and critically-acclaimed FinePix F30 - unprecedented light sensitivities up to ISO 3200 at full resolution, Fujifilm’s Picture Stabilization, the ‘i-Flash’ system, and best-in-class 580-shot battery life. Add a 3x optical zoom lens from Fujinon, a 6-MegaPixel Super CCD HR sensor, and a 2.5 inch LCD screen with glare-reducing coatings and the Fujifilm FinePix F31fd is an ideal companion for consumers looking for a first-class upgrade to their current digital cameras.

“Even if the T10 looked like debris from a Soviet space capsule, its image stabilization would make it a winner. Toss in sensitivity that goes into orbit at ISO 1000 and you have a serious toy. Casio EXILIM ZOOM EX-Z850PCMagazine have just reviewed the Casio EXILIM ZOOM EX-Z850 camera, which offers 8.1 megapixels, 3x optical zoom lens, manual exposure and advanced flash options.

“A nice-looking ultracompact camera, the Casio Exilim EX-Z850 ($399.99 list) is both small and sleek. Even so, it includes special features like antishake DSPs (digital signal processors) and the ability to control aperture and shutter speed settings manually. For a basic point-and-shoot, though, there was a steep learning curve—partly due to confusing, unintuitive menus and a lack of on-screen guides. Image quality was good overall. Still, I expected photos to be sharper, given the camera’s 8-megapixel resolution.”

Canon Digital IXUS 65ThinkCamera have reviewed the Canon Digital IXUS 60, a 6 megapixel digital camera with a 3x zoom lens, ISO 800, Widescreen (16:9) mode, and 2.5 inch LCD screen.

“If you’ve ever picked up an Ixus then you’ll know exactly what this camera looks like - they hit a design 10 years ago and stuck to it because it’s a great design. The camera is almost exactly credit card sized but thicker than a couple of the ultra slim models we’ve seen. Most of the body appears to be plastic. There’s just enough metal on there to keep to the Ixus ethic. The Ixus 65 feels heavier than you expect though - it’s only 145g but something about it feels solid. It’s also nicely balanced - without the battery you can tell the left side is much heavier than the right. Pop the battery in and it’s perfectly balanced.”

Panasonic LUMIX DMC-FX50DigitalCameraInfo have just reviewed the Panasonic LUMIX DMC-FX50, a 7.2-megapixel camera with 28mm wide angle f/2.8 LEICA DC lens.

“The Panasonic FX50 retails for $399, which seems slightly overpriced for what it is. What is it? The FX50 is mainly an automatically controlled point-and-shoot digital camera. It does have some pricey features like optical image stabilization, 7.2 megapixels of resolution, and widescreen movies. However, many of its competitors are offering lucrative features in one form or another. The overall value of the FX50 is below average, but for users who want widescreen movies and optical image stabilization above all else may think this is a bargain.”

“Sony made a big splash this summer with its first D-SLR, the impressive new Alpha DSLR-A100, but the introduction of the Cyber-shot DSC-W100 was much less dramatic. Olympus mju 700ThinkCamera have reviewed the Olympus mju 700 (also known as the Olympus Stylus 710 in the USA), a 7.1 megapixel camera with 3x zoom, 2.5 inch LCD and a weatherproof body.

“It’s a case of love it or hate it whenever a manufacturer breaks from the “thin square box” mould. The Olympus Mju 700 has an attractive wedge shape that is easy to grip and easy to slip in your pocket. This shape makes it very hard to hold your camera with two hands - even if you try to then your left hand slips off quite easily. If you are using it in a high risk environment (such as over the side of a boat) then I’d highly recommend wrapping the supplied strap around your wrist.”

Samsung NV10TrustedReviews have reviewed the new 10 megapixel Samsung NV10 digital camera.

“I’ve already waxed lyrical in previous reviews over the revolution that has occurred in Samsung’s camera design department, so I won’t go overboard on it here. Suffice to say that the NV10 is a remarkably attractive camera, and that the first impression is overwhelmingly favourable. This is, as it says on the box, a digital camera that others will envy. As you can see from the accompanying pictures, it has a very simple shape, with a rectangular cross-section and plain rounded ends. However the form fits the function and the camera is very comfortable to hold. On the front it has a nicely sculpted handgrip with a rubber insert for extra grip, while on the back the lug for the wrist strap doubles as a thumb rest, providing a good stable handgrip.”
