Konica Minolta DiMAGE X60DCResource have reviewed the new Konica Minolta DiMAGE X60, which has a large 2.5inch LCD screen (but no optical viewfinder), 5 megapixels and a sliding lens cover.

“Overall, the DiMAGE X60’s photo quality was a mixed bag. Sometimes it was good, other times I was disappointing. On the positive side, photos were well-exposed with very little purple fringing and noise. Colors were good most of the time, but in several photos I noticed a pronounced green/blue color cast (example). In addition, there is noticeable softness around the corners and edges in many photos (example 1, example 2), which sort of goes with the territory on these folded optics cameras. In other words, you have to be willing to accept the tradeoffs of a smaller camera like this one.”

Casio Exilim Pro EX-P505Trusted Reviews have reviewed the new Casio Exilim Pro EX-P505, which features a 5X optical zoom, an imaging CCD with 5.0 megapixels, Casio’s “EXILIM engine”, and a large 2-inch TFT color rotating screen.

“Despite its diminutive dimensions, the EX-P505 has many of the performance and handling characteristics of an SLR-style semi pro camera. Start-up time is a respectable two seconds, and the camera switches on automatically when you unfold the monitor. Shot-to-shot time is a reasonable although not outstanding 1.5 seconds, but there is no continuous shooting mode.”

Nikon Coolpix S1Hardware Secrets have reviewed the Nikon Coolpix S1, a 5.1 megapixel digital camera with a 35-105mm 3x Zoom-Nikkor ED lens.

“The large viewing screen is useful to notice pictures being spoiled by any dirt on the lens. Its resolution is relatively low – 110,000 pixels – comparing to other models like the Sony Cybershot DSC-T7 (which features double the pixels) but the 2.5 inches viewing screen serves its purpose. Picture framing is easy and the lack of an optical viewfinder passes unnoticed. The size is also good for menu browsing: the “Scene Mode” offers 15 pre-shooting settings (Museum, Backlight, Close-Up, Landscape, Underwater etc) plus some sub-settings. Navigating by them is pretty easy.”

HP Photosmart M22DigiCamReview have published their review of the 4 megapixel HP Photosmart M22 digital camera.

“Outside image quality was average, colour was quite rich and saturated, and noise seemed fairly low, the pictures had good contrast, although images were soft and as a result detail was average. Indoors - image quality was below average, images were soft and often fuzzy looking and lacked detail - focusing was occassionally a problem and red eye was quite noticable (although the built in red-eye reduction does help assuming you’re not wearing glasses). Images were generally fairly soft, and may benefit from sharpening. The maco mode was fairly poor as the closest you can get to the subject is around 20cm away.”

HP Photosmart M23CNET have just reviewed the 4 megapixel HP Photosmart M23 camera.

“With the plethora of affordable digital cameras available now, we have to wonder why HP is offering one without an optical zoom. Equipped with only a 7X digital zoom, this 4-megapixel camera doesn’t cost much; however, sluggish performance and mediocre image quality overshadow the Photosmart M23’s ease of use, attractive design, and price point. If you’re in the market for an easy-to-use point-and-shoot camera, you’re better off paying a few more dollars or dropping to a 3-megapixel model and getting an optical zoom.”

“Budding photographers who are looking to step up from a basic point-and-shoot camera but aren’t ready to assume total control of their photographic destiny will find this 4-megapixel model’s full exposure and focus automation comforting as they explore the pictorial possibilities of its 8.3X superzoom lens. “I really liked this camera. And in the family members and friends to whom I took pictures of with the M22, they liked it as well. They spoke a lot about its size and the quality of the pictures. In my mind, that makes for a very easy sell. The M22 is best used for those who are occasional photographers, or those who really want to play Photoshop games with a summer graphics class. It’s a very attractive model for a very attractive price. Not much to go wrong with here.”

Pentax Optio S45TrustedReviews have published their review of the 5 megapixel Pentax Optio S45 compact digicam.

“There’s no doubt the S45 is an attractive camera, and thanks to the sandblasted matt metal finish it will stay looking good for a long time. Pentax build quality has always been good and the S45 is certainly no exception. The pressed aluminium body feels very strong, with no creaks or flexing when squeezed. Design and handling are superb, with a comfortable handgrip on the front, easy-to-use controls on the back and that huge LCD monitor. The card slot hatch is separate from the battery hatch and is latched and spring-loaded. The battery hatch is on the base of the camera, but since the tripod bush is right over on the left edge it might be possible to change batteries while the camera is fixed on a tripod.”

“In standard shooting mode, the camera provides enough manual control to please most advanced users, but not so much that it’ll overwhelm a beginner. You get adequate control over the shutter by being able to adjust it +/- 2.0 EV (exposure units) in increments of 1/3 EV. While this isn’t quite the same shutter speed control that many other cameras provide, this feature is good enough in that the camera’s AI typically sets the right exposure automatically. This is more useful if you need to purposely over or underexpose a shot slightly.”

Fujifilm FinePix Z1 ZoomPocket-Lint.co.uk have published their review of the Fujifilm FinePix Z1 Zoom, a 5 megapixel compact digital camera with a large 2.5inch LCD screen and 3 optical zoom.

“Image quality is excellent, with exposures generally very good, focusing working well (even in low light and despite the camera lacking an AF assist lamp) although some shots had a very slight fuzziness when the camera was working hard in lower lighting conditions and at higher ISOs. However, the SuperCCD HR works well at those higher ISOs (up to ISO 800) and noise is well controlled indeed, less noise is good and sharpness can be tweaked on a PC later if needed.”
