DCResource have posted a full review of the Fujifilm Finepix S20 Pro digital camera, which sits at the top of the FinePix range.
“The Fuji FinePix S20 Pro’s conclusion is much like the one I wrote for the F700. The S20 is a very capable camera whose main disadvantage is its price: this camera is priced way too high at $999. As with the F700, the camera does its best at the 3 Megapixel resolution—at the 6M setting things are just too noisy. Dynamic range is slightly better than your typical camera, but don’t expect “night and day” differences between the two. At the 3M setting, images are colorful and sharp, though do expect above average purple fringing and a little noise as well.”

Steves Digicams have posted a full review of the Fujifilm Finepix S20 Pro digital camera, which sits at the top of the FinePix range.
“The bottom line for most digital camera buyers today is image quality and price. The FinePix S20 Pro in my opinion does not deliver the level of image quality that we expect from a “top of the line” digicam. Other than its 6M mode it does not offer any choices in image quality other than basic, this is a standard feature on every other manufacturer’s cameras.”

Steves Digicams have just reviewed the new 8-megapixel Olympus C-8080 Wide Zoom digital camera.
“The C-8080 also performed well outdoors. Images were consistently well-exposed and richly- saturated. The range of the zoom lens provides plenty of flexibility in shot composition, with the wide-angle 28mm focal length providing extra field of view for landscapes and the 140mm telephoto focal length bringing your distant subjects closer. The LCD viewfinder has a brightness adjustment, allowing it to be used even on bright days, but it has no anti-glare coating to prevent the reflection of direct sunlight; you’ll prefer to use the EVF on the brightest days.”

Sony has just released firmware updates for the Cybershot DSC-F828 and DSC-T1 digital cameras.
The Firmware update Ver.2.0 resolves the following issues for both cameras:
1. Picture deleting issue using quick review function:
- If you delete a picture in the Memory Stick using the quick review function , and the Memory Stick contains more than 2 folders, it may occur that another picture in another folder is deleted or that you cannot delete the target picture at all
2. Picture that is copied from the computer gets damaged when transferred to a camera via USB.
- When you copy a picture from a computer to a camera via USB2.0 in Hi-Speed mode, it may happen that the copied file in the Memory Stick gets damaged.
- When you copy and delete a picture from a computer to a camera by USB several times, it may happen that the file in the Memory Stick is damaged.

Luminous Landscape have just reviewed the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T1 digital camera.
“The big news is that this is a 5 Megapixel camera. That means it can produce 8X10” prints (at 240ppi) without any ressing up. It also features a very large (2.5”) LCD that fills more than two thirds of the rear of the camera. This is a first-rate screen - viewable even in the brightest sunlight - and it better be - because the T1 doesn’t have an optical viewfinder. The LCD is it. This takes some getting used to, and the fact that it doesn’t swivel means that sometimes positioning the camera for a shot can be a bit awkward. But the compromise is worthwhile because of the camera’s small size.”

DCViews have reviewed the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T1 digital camera, which should be available in your local photography shop now.
“Although the Sony DSC-T1 is really meant to be a point-and-shoot camera, it has many of the bells and whistles of higher end Sony models. Snapshooters will probably opt for Auto mode, which is a simple point-and-shoot mode that provides few controls. Program mode offers much more control over the way the image is recorded. ISO sensitivity, contrast, saturation and sharpness can all be set by the user, as well as flash level and metering among others.”

DP-Now have just spent an afternoon in the company of the Epson RD-1 rangefinder digital camera and have published a great report about this unique product.
“The Epson R-D1, body only, will go on sale some time this summer for an approximate price of €3,000, or about ?2,000 or US$3,500. We were told that only 10,000 would be made and perhaps half of these will sold in Japan, so if you want one desperately, you will need to be quick off the mark.”

DCResource have published their full review of the new 8-megapixel Nikon Coolpix 8700 digital camera.
“The Nikon Coolpix 8700 addressed many of the complaints that I had with the 5700. Where the 5700 had a tiny 1.5” LCD, the 8700 has a beautiful 1.8” screen. While the 5700 had no AF-assist lamp and was notorious for poor light focusing, the 8700 is exactly the opposite. There were other things that did not change, namely full support of Nikon’s Speedlites, clunky controls and menus, a cheap plastic door over the CF card slot, and the lack of a manual focus ring. And some things got worse—noise levels are (understandably) higher on the 8700 than they were on the 5700.”

Steves Digicams have reviewed the 4 megapixel Casio Exilim EX-Z40, which was first announced at the end of February.
“The image quality of the EX-Z40 is very good, it captures sharp and well saturated pictures. The 3x Pentax zoom lens covers a 35mm equivalent of 35-105mm and has a 4x digital zoom feature. There is moderate barrel distortion at full wide angle but almost no pin cushioning at full telephoto. The zoom lens is quick and smooth as it goes from wide angle to telephoto.”

Steves Digicams have just reviewed the Canon Powershot S1 IS digital camera, which offers 10x image stablised zoom, 3 megapixels and high-quality 640 x 480 video at 30 frames/second with sound.
“Canon’s PowerShot S1 IS represents a practical and cost-effective alternative to the 8-megapixel high-end consumer digicams dominating the headlines this year. Like its predecessor the Powershot Pro 90IS, the S1 combines a 3-megapixel imager and a 10x image-stabilized optical zoom lens. The difference that three years in digicam evolution makes means that the new S1 is now much more compact, faster and less than half the price.”

Popular Photography magazine have posted their review of the 8-megapixel Sony DSC-F828 digital camera.
“As with the F717, autofocusing is another very strong point - fast and sensitive in normal conditions. In low or no light, the camera projects a holographic focusing target by laser; within a range of about 16 feet, it makes for AF nearly as fast as in bright light.”

Popular Photography have also reviewed the 3.2 megapixel Kyocera Finecam SL300R.
“Press the shutter and The Twister starts clicking away merrily at over 3 frames per second. It’s true continuous shooting, and works with all resolution and compression settings. We filled a 256MB card with 242 full-resolution images (2048x1536 pixels) in 78 seconds, for a rate of 3.1 fps - a little slower than Kyocera?s claim of 3.5 fps, but still astounding.”

CNET have reviewed the 3.2 megapixel Kyocera Finecam SL300R. Kyocera claims that this is the world’s thinnest 3x optical zoom digital camera, which virtually eliminates lag time and is capable of unlimited continuous shooting at an unprecedented 3.5 frames per second.
“The Kyocera Finecam SL300R is an interesting-looking camera whose big claims to fame are its swivel-lens design and incredible burst mode. Otherwise it’s just an average 3 Megapixel / 3X zoom camera.”

CNET have reviewed the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T1 digital camera, which should be available in your local photography shop now.
“If you live by the philosophy that you can’t be too rich or too thin, the Sony Cyber Shot DSC-T1 belongs in the pocket of your Armani suit. This ultrachic, thin, high-resolution snapshot camera boasts a large 2.5-inch LCD, unusually good video capabilities, and a Carl Zeiss 3X zoom lens. But despite the T1’s cool factor, enthusiasts won’t be satisfied with its minimal advanced controls, and persnickety shooters will look down their noses at its image quality.”
