Fuji FinePix F700The Hungarian website Index Digicam have just reviewed the Fuji FinePix F700. Fuji claims the the F700 sensor improves image quality by widening the dynamic range, rather than just increasing the number of pixels. This should mean more detail in the shadow and highlight areas of an image than Fuji cameras have previously captured.

Leica Digilux 2Luminous Landscape have published the first in a 3-part review of the Leica Digilux 2, written by contributor Sean Reid and photographer Ben Lifson.

“For reasons I’ll describe in more detail in the full review, the camera gives its best performance when capturing in RAW mode. In JPEG mode, at higher ISO settings, the camera uses smoothing to clean up noise at the expense of detail a process that partially defeats the sharpness its excellent lens provides. Noise reduction, if desired at all, could more effectively be done by the photographer using a good tool like Neat Image or Noise Ninja. Based on what I see in prints from an Epson 2200, I think that I would rarely use any luminance noise reduction on files from the Digilux 2, even at ISO 400.”

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-P32LetsGoDigital have posted a new review of the Sony Cybershot DSC-P32, a 3.2 megapixel pint and shoot digicam that sells for around $229.

“The Sony DSC-P32 is a digital entry level camera but it certainly deserves its place amongst the many 3 Megapixel cameras because of its user-friendliness of the various settings and the fine image quality. The image resolution of 3 Megapixels gives a good result, also when the user of this camera likes to see his or her digital images printed on paper. The DSC-P32 offers everything a starter could wish for; convenience and user friendliness.”

Canon Digital IXUS iImaging Resource have published their review of the tiny Canon PowerShot SD10 (also known as the Digital IXUS i in some countries). The SD10 has a street price of $349 in the USA and £299 in the UK.

“The Canon ELPH series of digicams continues to be a popular option for many consumers, given its tiny size and reputation for great quality. The PowerShot SD10 Digital ELPH shrinks the line even further, taking advantage of that small SD memory card image storage, and sports a near-4-megapixel CCD for high resolution images. Although exposure control is mainly automatic, the availability of exposures up to 15 seconds and adjustable ISO increases the camera’s exposure versatility a great deal.”

Nikon Coolpix 3700Imaging Resource Resource have posted their review of the Nikon Coolpix 3700 digital camera. The Coolpix 3700 has a very different design from previous Coolpix models, with a brushed aluminium body that’s both slim and lightweight. The 3.2 megapixel 3700 features a 3x optical zoom that is equivalent to 35-105mm lens on a 35mm camera.

“The 3700’s small, compact design makes it a good candidate for travel, as the camera fits easily into a shirt pocket or small purse. The retractable lens design keeps the camera body smooth and low-profile, perfect for pockets, and the silver, metal body is fashionably chic as well as rugged. With the convenience of automatic exposure control and extensive preset shooting modes, the 3700 is perfect for novices and amateurs looking for great pictures and hassle-free camera operation, but has enough capability to handle a variety of shooting conditions.”

Canon PowerShot Pro 1DCResource have posted their review of the 8 megapixel Canon PowerShot Pro 1, which was announced by Canon just before the start of the PMA 2004 trade show.

“Thus far, I’ve only reviewed two 8MP cameras: this one, and the Sony DSC-F828. I give the edge to the Pro1 in most areas, most importantly image quality and manual controls. The F828 does get points for a faster lens, superior AF system, and nicer movie mode. It’s also a hefty camera to carry around, compared to the relatively compact Pro1.”

Kodak EasyShare DX6490CNET have just reviewed the 4 megapixel EasyShare DX6490 digital camera, a digital camera which features a 10x optical zoom lens (38-380mm focal length). The Kodak EasyShare DX6490 has a suggested retail price of £399.99.

“A 38mm-to-380mm (the 35mm-camera equivalent) 10X optical zoom lens and some manual exposure controls put the 4-megapixel EasyShare DX6490 near the top of Kodak’s consumer product line. This dSLR-style model matches its siblings in ease of use but lacks the refinements and the image quality that would nudge it up to advanced-amateur status.”

Olympus C-8080 Wide ZoomLuminous Landscape is the first website that I know of to review the new 8-megapixel Olympus C-8080 Wide Zoom digital camera. Unfortunately it doesn’t impress Michael Reichmann…

“Like the Sony F828 the Olympus C-8080 is able to shoot in RAW mode. But as with the Sony this mode is almost unusable because the camera takes forever (actually about 20 seconds ? a bit slower than the Sony) to write a RAW file to disk. During this time the camera is unusable. Sorry Olympus and Sony ? that’s not the way I do photography. Shooting Degeurotypes is faster. Spend a few more dollars and put in a bit more buffer memory and also a microprocessor that’s able to walk and chew gum at the same time. Totally frustrating!”
