Imaging Resource have just reviewed the Nikon Coolpix SQ and the Canon Powershot A70 digital cameras.
“Entering the scene with a completely new design, the Coolpix SQ continues the excellent quality associated with the Coolpix name. Its compact, square shape doesn’t skimp on features, offering a 3x Nikkor lens (with great macro capabilities), 3.1-megapixel CCD, and wide range of preset shooting modes. Its image quality is deserving of the Coolpix emblem, and it sports what’s easily the best LCD I’ve yet seen on a digicam, making it truly usable even in full sunlight. Suitable for most average exposure conditions, and even some not-so-average, the SQ ought to be a hit with amateurs and more experienced photographers alike.”

Here’s yet another review for you to read today…DCResource has taken a look at the Minolta Dimage F300, a 5-megapixel digital compact that retails for $599.
“The Minolta DiMAGE F300 is another one of those cameras that I like, but at the same time don’t think is the best of the pack (I’d give that award to the Canon PowerShot S50). The F300 offers full manual controls, sharp, well-exposed images, an above average movie mode, and a unique tracking autofocus system. I really like having an LCD info display as well. Negatives include higher-than-average noise in images, a very slow moving lens, shutter lag, and the lack of an AF illuminator. The bundle could be better, too. Don’t write off the F300—it’s definitely worth your consideration if you’re in the market for a small 5 Megapixel camera.”

Steve’s Digicams has reviewed the Minolta Dimage S414, a mid-range digital compact. According to Steve you should rush out and buy one before they disappear off the shelves…
“The DiMAGE S414 is an incredible deal (steal?) at just $399 (or less.) Most other 4-megapixel cameras are at least a hundred dollars more expensive. Few of the competing cameras offer a durable aluminum body and even less have 4x optical zooms. This is an excellent choice for the advanced user or the beginner who wants a camera they can grow into. It has plenty of image resolution to make photo-quality prints up to 13x19” size. They should sell as well as the S404 did last year so grab one now if you want one—they could go very fast.”

CNET Electronics have reviewed the Nikon Coolpix 4300 digital compact camera, awarding it 7.8 out of 10:
“Easy operation, comfortable ergonomics, and excellent image quality make the 4-megapixel Nikon Coolpix 4300 an appealing buy for snapshot photographers. But there’s more to this camera than simple point-and-shoot functionality, as its long list of features attests. If you like to rely on your camera to take care of the basics but want the flexibility of fine-tuning your shots, this versatile and very reasonably priced model should be on your short list.”

Steve’s Digicams has reviewed the intriguing Contax Tvs Digital. Available in silver or black, at $895 the 5-megapixel camera is aimed at the more expensive end of the market, which doesn’t go down too well with Steve:
“Taking the overall performance, image quality and price of the Contax TVS into consideration I can’t really recommend it. Boutique item or no boutique item—it’s just too expensive given the competition is selling equal and better cameras for much less. Today’s buyers for the most part don’t know or care about the heritage of the camera maker.”

Imaging Resource have reviewed the 3-megapixel Nikon 3100 and 2-megapixel Nikon 2100 digital cameras that Nikon announced at PMA 2003.
“I was impressed with the feature set and ease of use when I first reviewed a prototype of the new Nikon Coolpix 2100, but now that I’ve had the opportunity to test a production model, I’m impressed with the photos it shoots too.
All in all, Nikon has come up with a very nice little package here for novice photographers on a budget. Unique features like its “scene assist” mode (that helps you frame your shots to take maximum advantage of the camera’s preprogrammed scene exposure modes) make it easy for even rank beginners to bring back great-looking photos from what would otherwise be challenging situations.”

ePhotoZine have reviewed the Pro version of one of the most popular mid-range digital cameras, the FujiFilm S602.
“The S602 Pro is an easy-to-use camera that provides a flexible range of options, combined with higher image quality than most other three megapixel consumer cameras. There are minor niggles to be found in some parts of the user interface, with the slowish image playback being the most noticeable culprit. On the whole though the handling of the camera is in the best of class league and will suit many beginner or amateur photographers well.”

Steve’s Digicams have reviewed the 4-megapixel Olympus Stylus 400 Digital, a new digital compact which is based on Olympus’ classic 35mm film compact cameras.
“The bottom line ? we’re impressed with this camera. It’s built like a tank, albeit a small tank, it takes great pictures, it’s stylish, it’s compact and maybe the most important thing, it’s reasonably priced.”
Website: Steve’s Digicams - Olympus Stylus 400 Digital Review
Meanwhile, Imaging Resource have taken a look at the 3-megapixel Olympus Stylus 300 Digital .
“Besides its user-friendly interface, compact design and good picture quality, its excellent (and unusual) water sealing makes the Stylus 300 a very appealing choice for a “take anywhere” camera. Battery life is excellent as well. Overall, the Stylus 300 shoots as good as it looks, and is rugged enough to stand up to knocks and the occasional rain storm: A combination deserving serious consideration by anyone in the market for a compact, stylish digicam.”

Imaging Resource has posted new reviews of the Olympus C-750 and C-740 Ultra-Zoom digital cameras, both of which offer an optical 10x zoom lens.
“The C-750 has really excellent color, plenty of resolution, a lens with lower distortion and artifacts than I’d been expecting from a long-zoom model, and loads of features.”
Website: Imaging Resource - Olympus C-750 Ultra Zoom Review
“As with the C-750, there’s a lot to like here: The main differences relative to the higher-end model are 3.2 vs 4.0 megapixels, no flash hot shoe, and no sound recording. All else is pretty much identical, but for a lower price. If you want to get into long-zoom digital photography on a budget, the C-740 looks like an excellent way to go.”

ePhotoZine have quietly reviewed Minolta’s top-of-the-range digital camera, the SLR-like Minolta Dimage 7Hi. This is the grown-up, studio friendly descendant of the Dimage 7 series and Dimage 5 cameras, “aimed at the professional and serious amateur market.”
“The lower end Minolta Dimage 7i is already a well regarded camera in terms of image quality so the 7Hi has a solid foundation. Aimed partly at the Pro market, potential buyers of this camera may have very high expectations. Whilst many of the improvements Minolta include do offer a tangible benefit to Pro photographers, this camera still isn’t a complete alternative to a Digital SLR.”

DCResource have reviewed one of the new digital cameras that Canon announced at PMA, the PowerShot A70.
“In my opinion, one of the most exciting cameras introduced at PMA wasn’t a digital SLR or loaded with pixels. Rather, it’s a camera for the rest of the world, the folks who are really moving the digital camera market forward.
The camera I’m describing is Canon’s PowerShot A70 ($349), a 3.2 Megapixel camera loaded with features normally found on more expensive cameras. Lower end cameras don’t usually excite me, but this was an exception.”

I’m not sure how I missed this story yesterday, but Sony have announced no less than 9 new additions to its digital camera range. There are 6 new Cyber-shots, ranging from the DSC-P32 ($230), DSC-P52 ($280), DSC-P72 ($330), DSC-P92 ($500), the DSC-P8 ($400) and the DSC-P10 ($600). There are 2 new CD-based Mavica cameras, the MVC-CD350 ($500) and the MVC-CD500 ($700).
The most interesting new model is the Cyber-shot DSC-V1, which seems to be a direct replacement for the S85.
“Available in May for about $700, and barely larger than a deck and a half of cards, the Cyber-shot V1 camera will offer a 5-megapixel imager and a Carl Zeiss? Vario-Sonnar? lens with 4x optical zoom sharpness and color accuracy. It will also feature a hot shoe and accessory terminal.
