Ricoh have released a new firmware update, version 2.10, for the GR Digital II compact digital camera. Version 2.10 adds a number of new features, including Auto Aperture shift in the A mode, a noise reduction option depending on the ISO sensitivity, and correcting white balance during both shooting and playback.

TrustedReviews have reviewed the Casio EX-Z100, a new 10.1 megapixel digital camera with a wide 28 mm lens and 4x optical zoom.

“The overall level of detail from the 10.1-megapixel sensor is very good, and the compression rate is very low, with some image files over 7MB, very large for a point-and-shoot compact camera. Dynamic range and colour depth could be a little better, but they are no worse than average for a camera in this class. The exposure system tends to preserve shadow detail at the expense of burned-out highlights.”

Buy-n-Shoot have reviewed the 10.1 mega pixel Samsung L110 digital camera, which combines Samsung’s Digital Image Stabilization and Intelligent Face Recognition Technology in a compact aluminium body.

TrustedReviews have reviewed the Casio EX-Z200, a new 10 megapixel compact digital camera.

“Despite the many similarities between the Z200 and the Z100, for some reason the camera’s overall performance is very different, and not in a good way. It takes nearly three seconds to start up, and nearly as long to shut down again, which is very slow by current standards. In single-shot mode at maximum image quality the shot-to-shot time was approximately 2.5 seconds, which is again extremely slow. I thought that maybe the large size of the image files in this mode (over 7MB for some shots) was the cause, but the performance is the same in lower quality modes.”

Sony have identified a problem with the DSC-T20 camera, where photos can’t be taken because of vibrating of the camera body. This is due to a mechanical problem with the lens. The problem only applies to DSC-T20’s with certain serial numbers. Sony are offering a free out of warranty repair to solve the issue.

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX37 is a new 10 megapixel camera with a 5x, 25-125mm wide-angle lens. Successor to the FX35 model, the Panasonic FX37’s iA (intelligent auto) mode has been upgraded, now incorporating an AF Tracking function. The FX37 can shoot high-definition 1280 x 720p video at 30 fps, which can be output from the FX37 directly to a TV for large-screen viewing. New Pin Hole and Film Grain scene modes create film-camera-like effects, and Flash Burst mode allows continuous emission of flash on burst shooting. The DMC-FX37 is available in August in silver, black, blue, pink, white and brown, priced at £249.99.

TrustedReviews have reviewed the Sony Cyber-shot H50, a new 15x ultra-zoom digital camera.

“Despite the problematic handling, the Sony H50 churns our reasonable results, once you’ve spent most of the morning setting it up. Colours and exposures are generally pretty good and Dynamic Range Optimiser makes a good job of evening out contrast in more extreme conditions. At times the sharpening algorithms can be a little over enthusiastic though, with some halo effects occasionally appearing. The effects of fringing further compound this, which is slight but noticeable when images are viewed at 100% on screen, especially at the image edges. However central sharpness is good and images look crisp and respectable at normal viewing size.”

The Samsung NV100HD is a new 14.7 megapixel, 28mm wide-angle lens digital camera. The NV100 HD (called the TL34HD in the USA) features the updated Smart Touch 2.0 user interface, which uses a touch-screen interface to provide fast access to creative settings as well as intuitive control of images - for example, a simple X on the screen signifies delete. 720p resolution video can be recorded at up to 30 frames per second and viewed on the 3.0-inch, 460K pixel LCD screen. The Samsung L310W is a new 13.6 megapixel compact digital camera. The Samsung L201 is a new ultra-compact and stylish 10 megapixel digital camera. Available in classic black and silver as well as three eye-catching new colours – pink, turquoise and lime green - the Samsung L201 will be launched in August 2008 for £129. The Samsung S1070 is a new 10 megapixel entry-level digital camera. Highlights of the S1070 include a 3x optical zoom lens, Intelligent 2.7-inch LCD screen, Face Detection and Digital Image Stabilisation. The Samsung S1070 is priced at £99 and will be available from September 2008. All Samsung cameras include a two year warranty.

The only drawback to this camera is the noise that seems to be present in the dark areas of all the photographs. With a MSRP of US$300, this is a nice camera with excellent features.”
