Providing an equivalent focal length of 26-216 on a Canon APS-C DSLR, the Tokina ATX 16.5-135mm f/3.5-5.6 will initially be available for Canon and Nikon cameras. Price and availability of the Tokina 16.5-135mm lens are still to be confirmed. Tokina also announced an updated version of the 12-24mm F4 wide-angle lens for Nikon DSLR cameras without a built-in AF motor (the D60, D40x and D40).

The smc Pentax-DA L 18-55mm F3.5-5.6AL lens is a compact, standard zoom lens with a focal length of 27.5-84.5mm, weighing only 700 grams. The smc PENTAX-DA L 50-200mm F4-5.6ED lens is a super-compact, ultra-lightweight telephoto zoom lens with a focal length of 76.5-8307mm. In order to keep weight and price as attractive as possible, Pentax has adjusted the construction of these zoom lenses. Unlike other Pentax lens series these two lenses are equipped with synthetic bayonets and do not the Pentax Quick-Shift focal system. Initially, both new lenses will be offered only as a kit with the Pentax K-m which will be available in November 2008. The Pentax K-m / K2000 will retail at £399.99 with the new smc DA-L 18-55 lens or £499.99 with the smc DA-L 18-55 and 50-200mm lenses.

The Mamiya Sekor AF 80mm F2.8 D L/S is a new leaf shutter lens for the 645 AFD III camera. The lens has an angle of view of 47 degrees in the 6 x 4.5 format, the equivalent of a 50mm lens in the 35mm format. The leaf shutter, which has been developed and manufactured in-house by Mamiya, is capable of shutter speeds from 1/800 second to 16 seconds, and has flash synchronization at all speeds. “The Mamiya Sekor AF 80mm F/2.8 D L/S,” says Jeff Karp, Mamiya Product Marketing Manager, “is unlike any other lens system available today. It has the advantage of high flash sync speeds—up to 1/800 second when used as a leaf shutter lens—and a top shutter speed of 1/4,000 second when used with the Mamiya 645AFD III’s built-in focal-plane shutter.” Final pricing and availability will announced later this year.

The first lenses to be available will be the Planar T* 1.4/50 ZE and the Planar T* 1.4/85 ZE in the last quarter of this year. The Planar T* 1.4/50 ZE will cost 579 euros, and the Planar T* 1.4/85 ZE 999 euros. Further focal lengths will be added to the line within the next few months.
