The Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 45mm F1.2 PRO is a new, professional-grade portrait lens for the Micro Four Thirds system. The optical construction comprises 14 elements in 10 groups and an iris diaphragm with 9 rounded aperture blades. The back focus and relay lens system allowed a reduction in the number of lens elements required, resulting in a very compact, light-weight lens. Olympus has used optimally placed lens elements to effectively compensate for aberrations such as out-of-focus colour bleeding – a common problem on large-aperture lenses – as well as peripheral colour bleeding. The lens also uses the same Z Coating Nano technology found on the M.Zuiko Digital ED 25mm F1.2 PRO for sharp, clear image quality that significantly reduces ghosts and flares that tend to occur in backlit shots. The Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 45mm F1.2 PRO lens will be available from late November 2017 for £1,199.99.

The M.Zuiko Digital ED 17mm F1.2 PRO is a new professional-grade, 34mm equivalent prime lens for Micro Four Thirds cameras. The optical formula comprises 15 elements in 11 groups, including aspherical lens elements and includes newly developed ED-DSA (Extra-low Dispersion Dual Super Aspherical) lenses. Olympus claims to be the first manufacturer to successfully mass produce these lens elements which allow a reduction in the number of lenses used and make it possible to achieve a lighter-weight lens with a similar overall length to the M.Zuiko Digital ED 25mm F1.2 PRO (read review). Sporting a dustproof, splashproof and freezeproof construction, the M.Zuiko Digital ED 17mm F1.2 PRO lens has an angle of view of 65 degrees and a close-focus point of 20cm (measured from the sensor plane). The lens will be available from March 2018 at £1,299.99 including VAT.

The new Fujifilm Instax Share SP-3 SQ printer can print square-format photos taken with a smartphone on Instax Share film. Recent years have seen a rise in the sharing of square photos on social media platforms, such as Instagram, with users putting great care into every step of the process, from composition to editing and processing. With the SP-3, users can print beautiful, high quality square images in just 13 seconds to be used in DIY crafts, to decorate with or to give as a gift. Users can print up to 9 photos on one sheet using the “Collage Template”, a feature enabled by the square format of the SP-3, or use “My Template” to add text to printed photos. Available in white and black body colours, the Fujifilm Instax Share SP-3 SQ printer can print roughly 6x6cm photos from 800x800-pixel digital images at a resolution of 318 pixels per inch. The printer will be available from November 2017 for $199.95.

DxO today released DxO PhotoLab, successor to the company's highly regarded OpticsPro raw image conversion software, which now incorporates Nik Software's U Point technology. This local adjustment technology allows users, with just a few clicks and Control Points, to make complex selections, which would normally take meticulous, time-consuming work using a brush tool. Following this recent acquisition, DxO PhotoLab is now the only software to offer U Point technology in a non-destructive raw image conversion workflow. To provide photographers with all the tools they need to make local corrections, DxO is rounding out DxO PhotoLab’s feature list with an auto mask retouching brush that’s perfect for making precise selections, especially on portraits, as well as a graduated filter tool that’s useful for landscape photography. These tools share many similarities with Control Points: they give all users access to essential settings options, including exposure, contrast, white balance, micro-contrast, vibrancy, sharpness, and the addition of a bokeh effect. Dxo PhotoLab also includes a repair tool that has been rebuilt from the ground up. The interface is just as simple as before, featuring a simple brush that can be used on the areas that need retouching; but the underlying algorithm provides much better — and faster — results. The Essential and Elite editions of DxO PhotoLab for PC and Mac can be downloaded from the DxO website.

DxO today announced the acquisition of the Nik Collection assets from Google. The Nik Collection is composed of seven desktop plugins for Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop that provide a powerful range of photo editing capabilities. The current lineup of the Nik Collection includes Analog Efex Pro, Color Efex Pro, Silver Efex Pro, HDR Efex Pro, Dfine, Viveza and Sharpener Pro. DxO plans to continue development of the Nik Collection. The current version will remain available for free on DxO’s dedicated website, while a new version is planned for mid-2018.

The Sony FE 400mm F2.8 GM OSS is a new super-telephoto prime lens that offers a fast f/2.8 maximum aperture and G Master image quality. Currently in development with a target launch date of Summer 2018, the FE 400mm F2.8 is aimed at professional sports, news and wildlife photographers.

The Sony FE 24-105mm F4 G OSS is a new standard zoom lens that features the commonly used 24 to 105mm focal length range with outstanding G Lens imaging performance and the most lightweight design in its class.

The FE 24-105mm F4 will ship in Europe in November 2017, priced at approximately £1,200, and $1,300 in the US.

The Sony A7R III is a new compact system camera with a 42.4 megapixel back-illuminated Exmor R CMOS image sensor with 15-stops of dynamic range, continuous shooting speeds at up to 10 fps with full AF/AE tracking, 399 phase-detection AF points, 5-axis optical in-body image stabilization and 4K video quality.

The Sony A7R III will ship in Europe in November 2017, priced at approximately £3,200, and $3,200 in the US.

InMotion has created a fully automated digital slider for smartphone, GoPro and light mirrorless camera videography. In contrast to most camera sliders that are big, heavy, and expensive, InMotion is compact, light, and affordable. It can be mounted on a tripod, and users can attach their favourite accessories like lamps and microphones to it. Features include face-following, orbiting around a subject, time lapse, panoramic, and motion-triggered shooting leveraging an infrared gate and bluetooth sensors. Within the accompanying app, users can instantly stream video, make colour corrections, save your work to the cloud, and more. The InMotion Slider can also charge your smartphone via a fast USB charging port. The company today launched a Kickstarter campaign to help fund the commercialisation of the product.

Sigma today officially announced the development of the World's first 24mm (eq.) f/1.4 lens for Sony E-mount cameras with APS-C size sensors. The Sigma 16mm F1.4 DC DN | Contemporary lens features a wide variety of high-tech optical elements that effectively minimise optical aberrations and offer superb resolution throughout the aperture range. The optical design and stepping motor deliver smooth autofocus during video shooting, while the mount features special environmental sealing for a dust- and splash-proof construction. The lens will ship with a petal type lens hood. Pricing and availability have yet to be communicated.

Nikon will once again return to the PhotoPlus Expo in New York City, offering attendees a compelling booth experience. Throughout the show Nikon will highlight its extensive product line, headlined by the recently announced full-frame Nikon D850 DSLR (pictured). A variety of Nikkor lenses will also be on display, including the new ultra-wide zoom AF-P DX NIKKOR 10-20mm f/4.5-5.6G VR, the AF-S Fisheye Nikkor 8-15mm f/3.5-4.5E ED, the wide-angle AF-S Nikkor 28mm f/1.4E ED and the compact telephoto AF-P Nikkor 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6E ED VR. BenQ today introduced a new 27” 4K UHD monitor that offers professional photographers "unprecedented colour accuracy." The HDR10-enabled monitor allows users to see their images and videos in a wider dynamic range than a typical monitor. BenQ’s AQCOLOR technology enables photographers to have complete colour control over images. AQCOLOR uses a combination of hardware calibration, BenQ’s signature Palette Master Elements software and Technicolor Colour Certification, which ensures the monitor meets the strict colour accuracy standards used in Hollywood and the entertainment media. The SW271 boasts 99% Adobe RGB, 100% sRGB and Rec. 709 coverage, and also displays the DCI-P3 colour space. The monitor also features Delta E≦2, with its true 10-bit IPS panel and advanced 14-bit 3D lookup table. It offers an SD card reader, and USB 3.1, USB Type-C, HDMI 2.0 and DisplayPort 1.4 connectivity. A detachable shading hood is also included to reduce the monitor’s screen glare. Mygnar have announced the release of the expanded version of their core product, Gnarbox. This latest edition features an expanded storage capacity of 256GB, up from 128GB as seen on the original device, and an integrated mobile workflow with Adobe; making the import of content from Gnarbox to the Adobe Lightroom Mobile app and Creative Cloud ecosystem a seamless user experience. Digital Camera Magazine's ‘Photographer of the Year 2018’ and ‘Young Photographer of the Year 2018’ competitions are now open for entries. The contests aim to discover the most exciting, talented photographers from all over the world, with a prize fund on offer worth more than £12,000, courtesy of sponsors Affinity Photo and MPB.com. Photographers can enter their images in eight themed categories, including wildlife, portraiture, black and white, travel, landscape, macro, street, and a separate category for images taken on mobile phones. The overall winner, crowned Photographer of the Year 2018 will receive a prize package worth more than £4,800. A separate contest for photographers aged 25 and under, ‘Digital Camera Young Photographer of the Year 2018’, runs alongside the main competition, with the same categories available for entry. TH Swiss are expanding their range of Irix accessories with the Edge 100 series filter system. Among new products, there will be a versatile holder – the IFH-100 - with dedicated adapters and a wide choice of 100x100mm and 100x150mm filters. The Irix IFH-100's lightweight compact construction and bayonet adapter are created especially for the Irix 15mm f/2.4 lens, allowing the use of two filters at the same time without any vignetting effect. With the introduction of the IFH-100 filter holder, the Edge 100 series filters will also be available in two formats. The first, size 100x150, will contain graduated filters with a soft and hard transition, and also a reverse ND grad dedicated to taking pictures of sunrises and sunsets. These rectangular filters will be available in ND4, ND8 and ND16 versions.
