The HP Scanjet G3110 is a new photo scanner for creating high quality scans of photos, slides, negatives, documents and 3-D objects. The G3110 boasts 4800 x 9600 dpi and 48-bit color resolution scanning for optimum image quality. HP’s scanning technology allows users to enhance images by restoring faded colors, correcting flaws caused by dust particles and scratches, and removing red-eye from scanned images. The Epson V300 Photo is a new film scanner with low power consumption. The V300 Photo has a 4800 dpi scan resolution and a built-in transparency unit for scanning 35mm films and slides. It’s also equipped with ReadyScan LED technology which means the unit has low power consumption and requires virtually no warm up time. The Epson V300 Photo costs £69.99 / $99.99 and will be available from 1st November 2008.

The new CanoScan 5600F, LiDE200 and LiDE100 scanners provide an easy-to-use and affordable way to archive photos. The new Auto Scan Mode has been included on all 3 models, which reduces the scanning process from eight steps down to two. Dual Color Gamut Processing Technology matches the color tones between the original and scanned images for a more accurate reproduction. The CanoScan 5600F can scan up to six frames of a 35mm filmstrip or four 35mm slides at a maximum optical resolution of 4800 x 9600 dots-per-inch, and costs $149.99. The CanoScan LiDE 200 has a maximum optical resolution of 4800 x 4800 dpi while the CanoScan LiDE 100 has a maximum optical resolution of 2400 x 4800 dpi. They cost $89.99 and $59.99 respectively.

Shutterbug have reviewed the Microtek ArtixScan M1 flatbed and film scanner, which features 4800 dpi optical resolution and 4.4 maximum optical density.

The Plustek OpticFilm 7500i AI / SE are Plustek’s first Mac compatible film scanners and offer a high optical 7,200dpi resolution and 48-bit colour. Both the AI and SE models feature multi-exposure function for negative film as well as a multi-sampling feature that reduces noise. The OpticFilm 7500i AI additionally comes with a SilverFast 35mm IT8 Target calibration, which can generate ICC profiles. The OpticFilm 7500i AI and 7500i SE are priced at £395 and £223 excluding VAT respectively and are available now.

The long-delayed Microtek ArtixScan M1 flatbed and film scanner is now available in North America. First announced at the end of 2006, the Microtek ArtixScan M1 features 4800 dpi optical resolution, 16-bits per channel, 4.4 maximum optical density, multi-sampling noise reduction, and auto-focus technology.  Microtek also announced today the ArtixScan M1 Pro scanner, a new product with additional features to provide greater productivity when scanning film. “The Microtek engineers pushed the ArtixScan M1 forward to a higher performance level with new improvements to the electronic design, optical design, and mechanical design of the scanner,” said Parker Plaisted, Manager of Product Marketing for Microtek. “And with the added features in the ArtixScan M1 Pro, Microtek addressed the need for higher productivity in film scanning.” The Microtek ArtixScan M1 costs $649.99, and the Pro version $799.99.

PCMag have reviewed the Epson V500 Photo, a 6400dpi scanner featuring Epson ReadyScan LED technology for low energy consumption.

“I don’t generally use sports metaphors in reviews, but sometimes there’s no better way to put it. A case in point is the Epson Perfection V500 Photo ($249.99 direct). Epson has knocked one out of the park with this scanner. It offers high-quality scans for both prints and film and features an LED light source that eliminates warm-up time. Like almost any flatbed scanner, the V500 can handle all-purpose scanning, but it’s focused on photos. This makes it most appropriate for anyone (short of a professional photographer) who needs to scan a backlog of prints and film (including slides) to digital format.”

The Plustek OpticFilm 7300 is a high-resolution film scanner capable of scanning 35mm slides and negatives. The Plustek 7300 model offers a high optical 7200dpi resolution and features Plustek’s new multi-exposure function for negative film. The CanoScan 8800F and CanoScan LiDE90 scanners both offer faster scanning speeds than previous models. The 4800dpi CanoScan 8800F is up to 6 times quicker than its predecessor, the 8600F. The CanoScan LiDE90 replaces the LiDE 70 and is faster in a more compact form. The Epson V500 Photo is a 6400dpi scanner featuring Epson ReadyScan LED technology for low energy consumption. The V500 is the first Charged-Coupled Device (CCD) scanner to use white LED as a light source and warms up in just one second. The Epson Perfection V500 Photo features a built-in transparency unit for positive or negative film up to medium format. The Epson V500 Photo will cost £199.99 / $249.99 and be available September 2007.

The Epson V200 Photo is a cost effective, high-quality scanner in a compact and slim design. It features 4800dpi optical resolution, Auto Photo Orientation to straighten photos, and a built-in transparency unit with film holding storage. The Epson V200 can scan a range of document sizes, including A4, 35mm strip film x 6 frames and 35mm slide x 4 frames. The Epson V200 Photo will cost £69.99 / $99, available July 2007.

PCMag have reviewed the CanoScan 8600F, a 4800 dpi scanner which replaces the CanoScan 8400F.

“The Canon CanoScan 8600F ($180 street) has a lot to live up to. The model it replaces, the CanoScan 8400F, was one of the first inexpensive flatbed scanners to scan film—both slides and strips of film—reasonably well. That was enough to make it an Editors’ Choice. Today, however, plenty of inexpensive scanners can handle film well. Quality that blew away the competition in the 8400F’s day is no longer as impressive. On top of that, the 8600F costs 20 percent more than the 8400F, which means it has to do better to match it on bang for the buck. The good news is that the 8600F does do better.”
