Canon UK Press Release

Film-capable PIXMA MP760 Multifunction Photo Centre tops Canon range

Canon, leader in photographic and imaging technology, is pleased to announce the launch of the PIXMA MP760: Canon’s first high-end inkjet multifunctional product (MFP) to feature a Film Adapter Unit for 35mm film scanning. Designed as a comprehensive platform for photo printing from both digital and analogue sources, the device is Canon’s first MFP to feature a 2.5” colour LCD screen and simple user interface for quick image previews, adjustment and printing without a PC.

Integrating the same high-speed 5-ink ContrastPLUS print engine found in Canon’s acclaimed PIXMA iP4000 photo printer, the MP760 can output a borderless 4” x 6” photo print in just 36 seconds and incorporates:

§ Photo printer – 4800 x 1200 dpi, 2 picolitre ink droplets, ContrastPLUS, transparent single ink system
§ 25 ppm mono / 17 ppm colour document printer
§ Film-capable flat bed scanner - Full colour, 2400 x 4800 dpi, 6 x 35mm FAU
§ 2.5” colour LCD for direct image previews from film and memory card
§ Colour Copier – 25 cpm Mono / 17 cpm Colour
§ USB 2.0 Hi-Speed interface
§ 2 way paper feeding - Sheet feeder and Front cassette
§ Duplex printing and copying
§ CD-R/DVD printing
§ Camera and card direct printing – PictBridge compatible

“The MP760 is an important new product because it allows users to go straight from negative or slide film direct to lab-quality photo printing without the need for a PC,” observed Malcolm Hills, Head of Canon Consumer Imaging in the UK and Ireland. “With our heritage in scanner, copier, direct photo printing and document handling technologies, the PIXMA MP760 is Canon’s ultimate multi-functional photo centre.”

Canon’s FINE (Full-photolithographic Inkjet Nozzle Engineering) technology delivers 2 picolitre ink droplets producing industry-leading photo quality printing superior to that of most high street photo labs. With the clean lines, lustrous finish and minimalist design ethic synonymous with the PIXMA brand, the MP760 is perfect for the home environment.

All in one with advanced media handling
With only one cable, one power source, one driver installation and only one investment required, the MP760 is designed to save time, space and complication. With Canon’s unique dual paper path system, both plain paper and photo print media can be loaded simultaneously, allowing for switching between document and photo printing without changing the paper. The unit features high–speed printing onto compatible CD-R and DVDs with the use of a special media tray (supplied). Auto duplexing is supported for double sided document and photo printing and copying.

Additional copier functions such as 2-in-1 copy, Fit-to-Page copy and Borderless copy give excellent device functionality. A new ‘Fading correction copy’ function automatically re-saturates faded colours to instantly restore old prints and photos.

Personal photolab printing
To support use without a computer, a new 2.5” colour LCD allows image preview, selection and resizing before printing from memory cards and film scans.
A PictBridge port supports direct photo printing from all compliant digital cameras & digital video cameras. Photo printing is also supported via a memory card slot that accepts all popular memory cards . The MFP can produce ‘Tick-a-box’ Photo Index Sheets direct from memory card to simplify photo and media selection. Users select photos for printing by ticking image thumbnails printed on these Index Sheets, which are then scanned back into the device.

A compact Film Adapter Unit (FAU) is integrated into the MP760’s design. The special holder facilitates scanning of up to six frames of 35mm strip film or four mounted slides, which can be scanned at up to 2400 x 4800 dpi, 48-bit colour depth for superb print enlargements.

Advanced driver software identifies and removes defects caused by dust and scratches on the surface of originals. Fading correction ‘re-saturates’ faded colours in old photographs, and a grain correction feature takes out the grain visible in scans of high ISO film.

The FINE print technology on which the MFP is based is an adaptation of Canon’s own silicon chip manufacturing technology, used to create print heads with the tolerance and precision close to that of integrated circuits. The MFP’s Micro-Nozzles are capable of ejecting millions of 2 picolitre ink droplets every second, the smallest drop size in its class, getting more ink on the page in less time and with greater accuracy for prints of unsurpassed clarity, contrast, colour range and smoothness of tone.

Better inks, better contrast, no waste
Canon’s ContrastPLUS technology utilises a pigment-based black ink for crisp, sharp document printing, and a dye-based black and colours for high contrast, lustrous photo printing. Each ink is stored in a transparent, individually replaceable tank. To eliminate waste, only the ink that is exhausted needs to be replaced. A pop up window on their computer warns users when a particular colour is running low and the printer will not start to print a page if there is insufficient ink to finish. For stand-alone use, the colour LCD also provides constant ink level information.

Fast and easy
The MP760 copies in mono at up to 25 A4 cpm and supports full-bleed borderless copies up to A4 size. Paper documents can be scanned and stored electronically as PDF files with the ‘Scan-to-PDF’ function of the driver. Up to 10 individual photos can be scanned in a single pass with Fast Multi-photo mode: this generates separate, individually indexed and straightened files automatically. To prevent accidental paper jams, the front catch tray opens automatically when copying or printing commences.

Matching Media
Canon’s competitive advantage in printer hardware technology is fully realised when genuine Canon photo grade media and inks are used. The diverse and growing range of Canon media is developed specifically to work in combination with Canon’s FINE ink jet print technology. When used with Canon Photo Paper Pro (PR-101) media, the MP760 will produce prints which last 100 years when stored in a photo album.

Photo papers and media are available in a wide range of sizes, formats and finishes. They include double-sided photo paper (PP-101D 5”x7” and PP-101D A4), album kits which comprise of double sided photo paper and an album cover (PAK-101 5”x7” and PAK-101 A4), credit card sized glossy photo paper (GP-401), mini-stickers (PS-101) and the flagship Photo Paper Pro (PR-101) for the highest grade, 100 year performance professional results.

Software
The unit is bundled with the following software packages:
MP Navigator helps users get immediate optimum results with minimum fuss. Users select the required process (e.g. scan, print image from PC), then select the desired output; e.g. photo print, PC copy, CD-R print, OCR, attach to email, save as a file or PDF. The software links to common PC applications for seamless integration.

Easy-PhotoPrint assists with options such as media selection and scaling. It includes features such as Face Sharpening for out-of-focus face correction, Red Eye Correction and Digital Face Smoothing to reduce the appearance of wrinkles or blemishes.

Easy-WebPrint (Windows only) sits on the Explorer toolbar and takes the frustration out of web page printing, saving time, ink and paper by correctly scaling output to prevent the common problem of having the right-hand side of web pages cut off.

CD-LabelPrint – Simplifies printing directly onto print-ready CD-R and DVDs
OmniPage® SE – Optical Character Recognition application that converts scanned text into characters for editing or storage as a searchable text file.
PhotoStudio® - image-editing program featuring automatic colour and tone enhancement, cloning, animated 3D text and over 40 special effects.

The MP760 is compatible with Win98/Me/2000/XP and Mac OS X v10.2.4 or later.
