Gary Walsh ‘cleans up’ in the Fujifilm Envisage Photography Awards

Stockton-On-Tees Master Photographer Gary Walsh has scooped the top prize in the 2008 Fujifilm Envisage Photography Awards, becoming the ‘Fujifilm Envisage Photographer of the Year 2008’. He also claimed the two runner-up awards in the finals.

The Award means Gary wins £1000 for the client who commissioned the winning image. The Fujifilm Envisage Photography Awards are judged on a monthly basis and Gary had been awarded 10 Merits for his images throughout 2008.

The monthly Merit winners were entered into the finals as 10x8 inch prints, after being initially submitted as digital images online. Gary’s images were selected as the best of the best by Fellows of the Master Photographers Association, Steve Walton and David MacDonald.

Says Steve Walton: “Gary’s winning black and white portrait of a teenager with his scooter shone out as a fantastic example of technical excellence, great use of lighting and the pose is relaxed and natural. It’s not easy photographing people at that age and Gary’s managed to capture the perfect expression on the lad’s face; I’ll bet his girlfriend loves this shot!”

David MacDonald added: “While we had no idea who had taken the top three images in this competition, what was clear is that the photographers had thought very carefully about what they were shooting and each not only had great artistic merit, but they also shone through technically. The fact that all three images were actually taken by the same photographer just goes to strengthen the message that Gary really is a deserved winner.”

Gary is over the moon with the news: “I can’t tell you how delighted I am, and especially for my client, 17-year old Jonathan Wright. To be the overall winner is just fantastic, but to take both Silver Awards as well is a real honour. We actively use the Envisage Awards to drive additional customers to our studio and the added PR value of gaining monthly Merits has been very beneficial for us. Now, becoming the Fujifilm Envisage Photographer of the Year is certainly not going to harm our reputation! I’d also like to thank One Vision Imaging who produce all my Award prints.”

The Awards are designed to help members of Fujifilm’s Envisage marketing programme to generate more sales leads and therefore more profits for their studio. With up to 10 Merits awarded each month, these consumer Awards are a great way for wedding and portrait photographers to generate more business.

Envisage is operated by PR agency WPS Media and is open to all photographers who earn money from social photography, irrespective of the manufacturers they use or whether they shoot film or digital. Full details at www.fujifilmenvisage.co.uk or email [email protected]
