MPA unveils 2008 Kodak Award winners and launches 2009 competition

The Master Photographers Association (MPA), has announced the winners of the 2008 Kodak Wedding and Portrait Awards. The Kodak Wedding Photographer of the Year is Royce Yeacoob of Olney, while Lisa Visser of East Grinstead has been named Kodak Portrait Photographer of the Year.

These consumer awards are a joint initiative between Kodak Professional and the MPA and they are designed to help photographers drive business to their studios by offering the subject of the winning image a substantial cash prize. The subject of each of the two winning photographs received £1,000 while 20 Kodak digital cameras were given to the runner up consumers.

The Kodak Awards are also a major fundraiser for the MPA’s adopted charity, the PACE Centre in Aylesbury (www.thepacecentre.org). Each entry carries a £1 charge and all fees are donated straight to PACE. Says Colin Buck, MPA chief executive: “This is the third year the MPA has partnered with Kodak to bring these Awards to the public. PACE does amazing work with children with physical disabilities, such as cerebral palsy, and I’m delighted the Awards has once again raised a considerable sum to help this work continue.”

Lisa commented that the Kodak Awards are a great way of attracting new customers: “We ran the Kodak Portrait Awards as a big consumer promotion in the summer and it really seemed to work, we submitted over 60 prints in total. The public love the chance of winning such a good cash prize.”

The MPA are once again teaming-up with Kodak and will soon launch the 2009 Kodak Wedding and Portrait Awards, which are open to ALL professional photographers, not just MPA members. Full details are available on the website http://www.thempa.com
