The Royal Photographic Society has announced the winners for the 2009 International Projected Image Exhibition Awards. Amateurs, students and professional photographers worldwide were invited to submit digital images and slides in three categories, General Digital, Nature Digital and Open Slide. The winning entry of the General Digital category is Barbara Hill’s work, “In the Spotlight”. In the Nature Digital category, the Gold Medal was awarded to Kwong Hui for his photograph, “Pied Advocet” (see above). The Open Slide category winner is Peter Watson, who won the award for his image entlitled, “Temple Sweeper, Agra”.The winning images will form part of The Society’s 2009 International Projected Image Exhibition, which opens at The Lecture Theatre, Chester Zoo on 25th October 2009; and tours the UK and Republic of Ireland until March 2010.

THE ROYAL PHOTOGRAPHIC SOCIETY ANNOUNCES WINNERS AND TOUR 2009 INTERNATIONAL PROJECTED IMAGE EXHIBITION

The Royal Photographic Society has announced the winners for the 2009 International Projected Image Exhibition Awards. The winning images will form part of The Society’s 2009 International Projected Image Exhibition tour – a stunning collection of work covering both the human and natural worlds.

Amateurs, students and professional photographers worldwide were invited to submit digital images and slides in three categories:

General Digital
Nature Digital
Open Slide

The increasing popularity of digital photography resulted in a big increase in entries to the Competition. Nearly 3,000 submissions were submitted from over 500 photographers representing 31 countries worldwide and 264 photographers from 24 countries were selected for the Exhibition.

A total of 48 awards were made, including 1 Gold, 2 Silver, 3 Bronze and a number of Highly Commended in each category as well as a Photographic Society of America (PSA) Medal in the General and Nature Digital categories. Topping this year’s International Projected Image Exhibition were the Gold Medal winners:

The Society is grateful to the PSA for its support for the Exhibition, and a PSA Medal was awarded to the Best Overall Exhibitor in each of the Digital Categories as follows:

The Exhibition opens at The Lecture Theatre, Chester Zoo on 25th October 2009 and tours the UK and Republic of Ireland until March 2010.
Selectors Roger Reynolds Hon FRPS and Tony Wharton FRPS were joined by Steve Smith FRPS in the General Digital and Open Slide categories and by Ben Osborne Hon FRPS in the Nature Digital category

National tour

The Awards will be presented at the opening of the Exhibition at the Lecture Theatre, Chester Zoo on 25th October 2009, after which the Exhibition will tour over 20 venues throughout the UK and the Republic of Ireland until March 2010. The Exhibition will present the entrants’ original slides, together with projection of the digital images.
