55% of Brits Share Holiday Snaps on Social Media

PhotoBox has just released the results of a new survey on the holiday photography habits of Europeans. The study has revealed that 55% of Brits share their holiday picture on Facebook, followed by the Swedes with 40%. France is the least social media savvy, as only 4% of French said they share on Facebook. Instagram and Twitter were hardly chosen, apart from Sweden where 24.1% of respondents declared sharing their holiday pics on Instagram. Along with the Swedes, Brits are the most "selfie-obsessed" as 27% of them admit to taking self-portraits on holiday. The Spanish aren’t far behind with 22%. Photographing holiday meals is popular with 35% of Swedes, 30% of Germans and 27% of Britons. In addition, 30% of the British respondents said they used props in their holiday photos to make them look better just like celebs such as Rihanna, Kelly Brook, Cara Delavigne and Justin Bieber.
Photobox Press Release
We are a nation of photo fakers when it comes to our holiday snaps
- New research from PhotoBox has found that nearly a third of Brits admit to using props or styling to make their holidays pictures look better
- Over a quarter are selfie obsessed
- More than half share holiday snaps on Facebook
- Nearly half use their smartphone camera on holiday
Our holiday photo habits have been revealed and they are a pretty picture thanks to the photo tricks we use, according to new research by PhotoBox to coincide with the launch of its upgraded app. Europe’s leading personalised product printing company surveyed 1,600 Brits and found that almost a third (30%) of us admit to styling or using props in our holiday photos to make them look better just like celebs such as Rihanna, Kelly Brook, Cara Delavigne and Justin Bieber. Whether it’s a strategic pair of shades, sitting against a Ferrari that’s not yours or strutting in a pair of heels you wouldn’t wear out – we are all at it!
As a nation we are also becoming increasingly photo and self obsessed with nearly two thirds (63%) saying they took more photos on holiday this year than last and 35% saying they took over 300 photos! In addition over a quarter (27%) admitted to getting involved in the new selfies trend. And it is no wonder we want to look good and give people holiday envy, as more than half of Brits (55%) put their holiday pictures up on Facebook.
The digital camera is still the device of choice for taking photos, but the smartphone is racing into second place with almost half of us (49%) now using it as a camera whilst on holiday.
Photo sharing isn’t just by social media either, as more than half of us (58%) create photo objects with our holiday photos, and now thanks to PhotoBox’s app, it’s even easier to print our holiday snaps straight from the iPhone or iPad. The app brings together the camera roll, Facebook and Instagram for the first time, so there is no excuse to leave images lingering on the computer.
Speaking about the research, Lee Farrer, Marketing Director at PhotoBox says:
“The end of summer is one of the busiest periods for photo printing, and this year we expect it’s going to be even busier – we estimate that a staggering 9 million + prints will be created for UK customers this month*. This is an incredible 1.5 million increase on what is printed in an average month.
“With our new research showing that we take more than 300 photos on holiday, increasingly on smartphones, we have created something to meet this growing need – a simple PhotoBox app to turn all of our holiday pictures into lasting memories. Integrating Facebook and Instagram, and available on all devices, it ticks all of the boxes for what we know our customers want.”
The PhotoBox app is available for iPhone and iPad for free via the App Store.
